New All-Encompassing Fraggle Rock Book Coming in September

Very exciting news down at Fraggle Rock today, as our friends over at The Muppet Newsflash on Twitter revealed that Down at Fraggle Rock: Lost Treasures from the Jim Henson Archives, a brand new, all-encompassing book discussing every aspect of Jim Henson's beloved series will be released on September 10th. Check out Amazon.com's official product description below:

It’s been thirty years since Jim Henson’s irrepressible Fraggles first hit the screen in the beloved children’s television hit, Fraggle Rock. This delightful volume tells the incredible story of the bighearted show that helped instill open-minded values in a whole generation of young viewers. Created by the legendary Jim Henson, along with Michael K. Frith, Jocelyn Stevenson, Jerry Juhl, and Duncan Kenworthy, Fraggle Rock remains a favorite with fans three decades later.

Delving into the benevolent philosophy that lays at the heart of the show, Down at Fraggle Rock will follow every stage of its creation, from early concepts to the incredible puppetry that brought the unforgettable characters such as Gobo, Red, and Mokey to life. With contributions from Frith, Stevenson, Kenworthy, and other key members of the creative team, the book will take readers inside the intriguing process that produced this landmark series.

You can pre-order the book on Amazon right now for less than $30. It sounds incredibly exciting and a perfect addition to any Muppet book collection, right alongside Sesame Street: A Celebration - 40 Years of Life on the Street and Imagionation Illustrated: The Jim Henson Journal. I can't wait to read my cares away!

  1. This is so exciting, thank you for posting Ryan! After this, Henson might hopefully look at a complete CD set. Will there be anything else left to celebrate from the original series but the music?

As for the book, my first hope is that they avoid repeating Michael Frith art already available as loose-leaf sketches with the Season 3 DVD set. 160 pages is a lot (a bit slimmer than Imagination Illustrated), but I really hope they stick to as many previously unpublished images as possible.

My second hope is that Insight Editions, the publisher, will include "interactive" material such as pull-out items and facsimiles, similar to their Hanna Barbera book:

  2. Amazon no longer lists it. Does this mean it's canceled?
