The Muppet Movie "Nearly 35th Anniversary" Edition Blu-ray Coming August 13th

Yesterday official details about the previously announced release of The Muppet Movie (1979) on Blu-ray came to light via our friends at StitchKingdom.com, as well as an official confirmation on The Muppets Facebook page. Check out the cover art, release date, and release details below:
(Blu-ray + Digital Copy)
Available August 13, 2013

Celebrate The Nearly 35th Anniversary of the ultimate frogs-to-riches story with the one that started it all -- The Muppet Movie. Laugh along with the mostly-true story of the Muppets got their start, now for the first time ever in vibrant Blu-ray hi-def picture and sound.

From the very first 'plunk!' of Kermit's banjo playing 'The Rainbow Connection' (Oscar nominee, Best Original Song, 1979), to the hysterical road trip that brings our fearless frog together with Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal, and most importantly of all, Miss Piggy, join the jam-packed heartwarming hilarity, outrageous antics and big-shot Hollywood cameos. It's bursting with hilarious bonus extras including an all-new Frog-e-Oke sing-along with your favorite Muppet songs.

As Kermit and the gang sing -- 'Life's like a movie!' Make The Muppet Movie part of your family, and have the time of your life as the Muppets share laughter and fun with 'the Lovers, the Dreamers...and You.'

So there you have it! I know I'm thrilled to get the high-definition copy of The Muppet Movie in a few months--despite the fairly terrible cover art.

  1. Fairly terrible? It's just straight-up terrible. I really don't appreciate Disney's continued efforts (well, not really effort, they're just flat-out doing it) to erase Jim Henson's name from everything that he did and replace it with theirs. I KNOW they OWN the Muppets now, but still, show some respect for the man who brought them to life! Even when THE MUPPETS (2011) came out, during the end titles, they could have said, "Based on Characters Developed By Jim Henson", but instead said, "Based on Properties Owned by The Walt Disney Company". I mean at least the previous DVD release of TMM at least said "Walt Disney Pictures Presents from Jim Henson Productions".

But aside from all that, I have the DVD, therefore, I don't need a Bluray release just because everybody has this mentality that, "D00d! DVD sux yo! U sux 4 not having Bluray man!"

    1. It's simply a company branding thing. All of their films nowadays carry the Disney moniker over their title.

  2. I am probably going to buy it, but the dvd art on the front does not surprise me. I like that it has the classic studibaker on the front, but the pictures of the gang on the front are things we have seen before, but that's okay, I just love that at least Disney is trying. But this is just my opnion, so please don't yell at me fellow commenters, unless it's about my spelling which I know sucks.

  3. I like the concept of the cover very much. The photo-shop work, however, is appallingly bad. Like, Muppets Magic from the Ed Sullivan Show DVD bad. Really, really bad. Bad, bad, bad... like a bad, bad donkey, okay.

Who approves this stuff? And what's wrong with using the brilliant work of Drew Struzan - ya know, the picture that this cover is based on, except that his is actually good?

  4. Day one purchase for me. Great news!! I like how the artwork references the original movie poster.

Looking forward to seeing all that glorious Muppet fur, feathers and hair in glorious 1080p HD.

  5. Probably should've recycled the old 1990's VHS cover as that was used on a recent forgin DVD release.
