The Muppets' Super Bowl Round-Up

Yesterday, for anyone who may not know because they were under a rock, was Super Bowl Sunday. But based on the number of different and fantastic Muppet things that occurred yesterday, you may as well call it Muppet Bowl Sunday. The Muppets appeared everywhere from the FOX Super Bowl Pre-Game Show, to Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl, to all over Twitter, and beyond. We had a really hard time keeping up with all of it last night, so this morning we've collected everything we could find involving the Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted from yesterday. Please let us know if we missed anything!

During the FOX Super Bowl Pre-Game Show, a roughly 10-15 minute portion of the broadcast was sponsored by Muppets Most Wanted and even billed as The Muppets Most Wanted Super Bowl Pre-Game Show. This entailed nothing but the Muppets Most Wanted logo and some Muppet photos popping up on the front of the FOX sports desk, but it was still really cool to hear. Kudos to Disney for purchasing SO much ad space this year.

But the more exciting thing that happened during this time was a brand new TV spot for Muppets Most Wanted which debuted on FOX during the pre-game. The TV spot is hysterical and shows some great new shots from the film. Watch it below... and then watch it again, we won't blame you.

The Muppets also appeared twice during Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl X, the annual event that pits adorable little pups against each other on the gridiron. The Muppets appeared twice to promote Muppets Most Wanted and pitch their ideas for how to improve the Puppy Bowl. Check out the EXCLUSIVE videos below, filmed by yours truly off the TV.

Disney and the Muppets later posted this great video of The Swedish Chef, Chickens, and Beautiful Day Monster having some football fun on Game Day. Yup. This is a thing.

Before the Super Bowl began, Toyota released another video featuring Rowlf, Scooter, Rizzo, Gonzo, Camilla, The Swedish Chef, Beaker, Floyd, and Pepe in the Toyota Highlander. In this one, they're stuck in traffic. What happens is hysterical and a must-see...

Of course the biggest moment for the Muppets yesterday was when their Toyota Highlander "No Room For Boring" commercial with Terry Crews aired during the second quarter of the Super Bowl. The commercial electrified Twitter when it aired and many are still calling it the best ad of the night. For those who haven't seen it, or for those who just need to see it again, here it is...

Miss Piggy, who was conspicuously not in the Toyota commercial, has finally issued a video response to her slight. It's hilarious, of course. Watch it below...

If you were watching the Super Bowl in a Spanish-speaking country, you probably didn't see the Terry Crews ad. Instead, you might have seen two Spanish commercials featuring the Muppets and the Toyota Highlander. They're really funny and awesome and I really, really hope we see English versions soon.

The Muppets (@TheMuppets) and Miss Piggy (@RealMissPiggy) were also live-tweeting through the entire Super Bowl to hilarious effect. Both accounts were on fire last night, with some really funny, really surprising tweets. Be sure to check out both accounts and scroll through their recent tweets to see great tweets like this...

My favorite part of last night's Super Bowl frenzy was the fact that Toyota USA (@Toyota) handed over the reins of their Twitter account to Pepe the King Prawn, who live-tweeted throughout the entire event. Pepe was spot-on all night long, and I'm 90% sure that our friend Bill Barretta was writing the tweets. However, I'm 100% sure that Bill Barretta was performing Pepe for Toyota's hysterical Vine videos last night, which saw Pepe reacting to the Super Bowl in real-time. They're fantastic. Watch all seven Pepe videos below...

Well there you go! A huge amount of content from yesterday alone. This is absolutely the biggest Muppet news day in a long, long time. Congratulations to the entire Muppet team on this awesome promotion and a truly huge day.

  2. Ryan did anyone else see the commercial with Crazy Harry in it? I've not seen that one posted any where. It was the second ad they showed last night.

    1. Not sure if you're talking about the one that's posted above (the second Spanish one). I saw it (in English) during Jimmy Fallon last night.
