APRIL 3, 2014

The fine folks at Toyota have released an onslaught of hysterical new videos featuring the Muppets and Terry Crews in the Toyota Highlander in between takes. There a few videos and each of them is funnier than the last. Watch them all below!

Our friends at Threadless have announced the three winners of their Muppets Most Wanted themed t-shirt design contest. The three winning shirts feature Beaker, Sam Eagle, and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Each shirt costs $25, but it's totally worth it. I already bought the Electric Mayhem shirt and it's seriously awesome. You can buy each of the shirts and see the winning designs on Threadless.

Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge, the awesome new reality competition show from The Jim Henson Company and Syfy has aired two episodes so far, but if you don't have cable or weren't home to watch, you might've missed them. Well luckily for you, Syfy has both episodes on their website to watch right now! Head on over to the Syfy website to watch both episodes, because you really won't want to miss them--especially this week's incredible Skeksis-themed design challenge. If you are in Canada, check out the Space Channel's website for the episodes.

The Great Gonzo acted as grand marshall for NASCAR's Auto Club 400 on March 23rd. He got to shout at drivers to start their engines, and thanks to our friends at Muppet Stuff you can watch video footage of it! Check out the video below, and jump to two minutes in for the Gonzo parts.

Telly Monster teamed up with Mashable and our friend Annie Colbert for a fantastically fun new video all about microscopes! Dive in by watching the video below!

Abby Cadabby helped light the Empire State Building blue for Autism Awareness yesterday. Using her magic (and a special blue wand), Abby turned the building blue. Watch video of the lighting ceremony below!

NEWS UPDATE: December 15, 2012
Kermit the Frog (you may have heard of him) stopped by the VH1 offices while he was in New York City to be on their morning show VH1 Big Morning Buzz Live! He visited to give some relationship advice (and do some harmless flirting) with host Carrie Keagan. It's a charming, fun little interview so enjoy the video below!

As we've mentioned before, the Muppets are returning to WWE Raw later this month (specifically on Wednesday, December 19th at 9:00pm/8:00pm central time on the USA Network) for their WWE Tribute to the Troops. Well, as part of the promotion for the appearance Miss Piggy appeared in a video on the WWE YouTube page with rapper Flo Rida. It's odd, but it happened, so here it is!

Earlier this week Sesame Street made headlines as they promoted their newly released resources for families coping with divorce. As many Muppet fans know, this isn't the first time the show tried to tackle this tough topic. Back in the early 1990s, they tried an episode featuring Snuffy's parents getting divorced. It tested incredibly poorly and was completely scrapped. But thankfully, they tried again and this time (in my opinion) it worked beautifully. The producers chose Abby Cadabby to teach kids about divorce as she talked with Elmo, Rosita, and Gordon about her parents being divorced. My words can't really do the resources justice, so head on over to the official site for Little Children, Big Challenges: Divorce to watch and read through the content yourself.

Finally, our friends at Top Hat Sasquatch have given Muppet fans an early Christmas present this year with MP3 versions of all of the songs from the classic special A Muppet Family Christmas. You can download the soundtrack for free from the site and gain some fantastic songs to make your days merry and bright this holiday season! Thanks to Top Hat Sasquatch for putting the soundtrack together and alerting us about it!

NEWS UPDATE: October 21, 2012

Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby stopped by the offices of TV Guide Magazine the other day and made this spectacularly fun video. Check out the video below and join me in wondering why we don't see more of this pairing!

Cookie Monster is also slated to appear on ABC's daytime cooking show The Chew on Tuesday, October 23rd (which just so happens to be my birthday), so if you want to see Cookie Monster most likely eat cookies... tune in or set your recording device or pay your cousin to transcribe it for you and read it back to you in a Cookie Monster voice!

Yesterday, Paul Williams, the legendary singer/songwriter and auteur of songs in Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, The Muppet Movie, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and more visited Reddit yesterday to participate in one of their popular AMAs, which stands for "Ask Me Anything" to promote the documentary which he is the subject of called Paul Williams Still Alive, now available on iTunes. There were over 70 replies and Paul took the time to answer most of them. There's plenty of Muppety content for all to enjoy, and even more of Paul just being the plain old awesome person we all know he is!

This bit of news is especially exciting for our fans in the United Kingdom, as our friends at Park Circus Films are putting The Muppet Christmas Carol back in UK cinemas as part of an exciting 20th anniversary celebration for the film. The classic movie returns to cinemas all over the UK starting on November 23rd, 2012, so if you're in the UK be sure to get out there and relive this Muppet holiday gem on the big screen! The film will only be in UK cinemas for a very limited time, so make sure to see it before it goes away! How can you miss a chance to see Gonzo and Rizzo's antics and Michael Caine dancing on the big screen?

We're also sharing an offer to the Muppet fans in the United States via our friends at Disney Family Movies, which gives you access to ten Disney movies on demand every month. For October, Disney Family Movies' On Demand slate includes both The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper. If you sign up before October 31st, you'll receive one month of service free. Check out the Disney Family Movies subscription video for more information on how to enjoy this service in your home! Thanks to our friends at Disney for asking us to post this!

Finally, our friends at StitchKingdom.com have received the official press release from The Walt Disney Company for the November 6th Blu-ray release of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Below is the list of all the bonus features included on the release:
  • Disney Intermission — An all-new bonus feature. When the film is paused, fans can watch and "cluck-a-long" to five classic holiday-themed songs performed by the Muppets Chickens and chums.
  • Audio Commentary — All-new audio commentary with fan-favorite characters, Kermit, Rizzo, Gonzo, and more, all reflecting on their experience making The Muppet Christmas Carol.
  • Frogs, Pigs and Humbug: Unwrapping a New Holiday Classic. A Behind the Scenes Look — Hosted by director Brian Henson, Gonzo and Rizzo fans go behind-the-scenes of the making of The Muppet Christmas Carol.
  • Blooper Reel — On the Set bloopers from the set of the film.
  • Pepe Profiles Gonzo: ‘Portrait of the Artist as a Young Weirdo’ — A special look at the man, the myth, the legend the Great Gonzo, hosted by the one and only Pepe the King Prawn.
  • Christmas Around the World — Gonzo and Rizzo take a look at how Christmas is celebrated all over the planet.
The DVD edition contains all of the blu-ray bonus features except for the behind-the-scenes look and the Disney Intermission.

Unfortunately, as StitchKingdom reported and I've since confirmed, there are no plans for the Blu-ray to include the song "When Love is Gone" anywhere on the disc. This is terribly unfortunate--even just including it as a bonus feature would satiate most fans. If you're discouraged by this, I suggest writing an email to disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com and calmly explain your frustration in the lack of the song. There probably won't be time to get it on the Blu-ray before it is released on November 6th... but it couldn't hurt.

One of our favorite actors, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (of 500 Days of Summer and The Dark Knight Rises) fame appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night to discuss things that shouldn't really connect to Muppets... but somehow they did, and JGL's love for our fuzzy friends was revealed! Check out the fantastic clip from the show below to hear Joseph Gordon Levitt and Jimmy Kimmel discussing Murray Monster, The Muppets, and amazing footage from Emily Blunt!

The fine folks responsible for the amazing documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey have alerted us to the fact that the film is up for a PBS Independent Lens Audience Award! Up against many other PBS documentaries, Being Elmo has some stiff competition, but as Muppet fans, I think we've proven time and again that we're capable of rocking the vote in our favor! All you have to do is click the link above, scroll down to Being Elmo, and vote it 5 Stars and your vote is in! It's that simple! So get out there and help our this fantastic, moving film!

Muppet fan Davide Maugeri contacted me recently with information on a non-profit project he and a team are working on as a tribute to the classic Jim Henson/Disney television sitcom Dinosaurs. Check out the work Davide has already done with a little snippet of information about the project: "Recently I've teamed up with some workmates to make a CG tribute to Jim Henson. A one and a half minute animated short featuring two characters from one of our favorite Jim Henson shows, Baby and Earl Sinclair from Dinosaurs. We'd like to stress that it is only meant as a homage and tribute to the genius of Jim Henson which made the series possible. Since this was a big hit in the early 90's and it ended up forgotten, our main goal is to bring these characters back to life and remind people they still exist, and they still can make us laugh like they used to. Here is a sneak-peek picture that shows both the characters as they appear in their new CG look. The short should be complete by the holiday season (December)."
Last week marked the end of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, but I was in Walt Disney World so I missed some exciting news from the games: Grover, Elmo, and Abby Cadabby were present in London for a few days mingling with Olympic athletes and just having fun! Our friends at ToughPigs.com have a fantastic round-up of the video appearances the trio made across the pond, and be sure to check out the official Sesame Street Olympic Photo Album on Facebook!

In "no one could have seen this coming" news, Legendary Entertainment Alliance announced early last week that they would be releasing the hilariously weird television special A Special Sesame Street Christmas on DVD on November 6 of this year. You can pre-order the DVD for only $12.98 right now on the L.E.A. website. Never heard of this infamous special? Check out the trailer for the special/DVD below (or just look at the awful DVD cover art at right) and you'll see what makes this piece so fantastically strange. I know I'll be owning it!

Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby: Olympians

Awhile back, Elmo expressed his desire to go to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Well, his wish came true (go figure), and Elmo is bringing along his friends! That's right, Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Grover will be hopping the pond to visit the Olympics! Check out this video for confirmation:

So we still have no idea what Elmo and friends will be doing over there (although my mind is racing with hysterical thoughts of how Grover could participate), but we can get excited to see our fuzzy friends participate in some fashion! For instance, watch this video of Elmo and a Team USA Gold Medalist discussing persistence!

I would love to see more videos like these come out of this... but mostly, I'd love to see Grover try to luge. Can someone make that happen please? Can we get Grover on a luge?

Most recent appearance...

Best known role...
Fairy god-child, doer of magic, Fairy School student, fan of pumpkins

Famous quote...
"That's so magic!"

Best friends...
Elmo, Rosita, Zoe, Big Bird

WHO IS ABBY CADABBY?
Abby Cadabby is a relative newcomer to Sesame Street. She is a fairy god-child and the daughter of Cinderella's fairy godmother. She is currently a fair-in-training and she possesses amateur magical skills, mostly involving turning things into pumpkins. She has been known to fly into the air when she is excited or elated. Her magic spells usually go haywire, causing some havoc among her friends on Sesame Street. She has made gravity disappear, everyone sing and dance, everyone wear tutus, turned Chris and Baby Bear into bees, made Elmo huge, made Big Bird small, among many other things, learning lessons about life all the while.

Abby Cadabby first moved to Sesame Street in Season 37 in 2006. The first person she encountered Oscar the Grouch, who told her to scram. Abby grows concerned about moving away from home and meeting new people. It takes reassuring comments and a song from Big Bird and Snuffy, who teach her to play hide and seek, to make Abby come around. She later meets Elmo, Zoe, Count von Count, Maria, Luis, and the kids, to whom she demonstrates her magic powers, finally making friends in her new home.

In the next episode of Season 37, Abby attended her first day of Storybook Community School with Baby Bear. Taught by Mrs. Goose, Abby encountered all sorts of other characters, including Mary and her little lamb and Red Riding Hood. In Season 40, however, Abby either moved up to the next level of fairy schooling or transferred schools as the recurring segment "Abby's Flying Fairy School" debuted on Sesame Street. At Flying Fairy School, Abby and her classmates Blögg and Gonnigan go on magical adventures in school with their teacher Mrs. Sparklenose. They have encountered trolls, fairies, genies, and a Macaronisaurus in school. Flying Fairy School segments became part of every episode of Sesame Street since Season 40.

Since she first arrived on Sesame Street, Abby has made many friends. The friends she spends the most time with include Elmo, Big Bird, Telly, and especially Zoe and Rosita. Together, Abby, Zoe, and Rosita, have bonded and become great friends. They have celebrated the Number 7, had arguments, made up, and sang songs about the four seasons and what they can do because they're friends. Abby's magic powers have turned her and Zoe into twins, and Rosita is teaching Abby Spanish while Abby teaches Rosita to speak a language called Dragonfly.

Elmo and Abby are also great friends, playing together nearly every day. They have operated a counting booth for The Count, played knights with Telly, played superheroes with Telly, rode tricycles together, and much more. Together, Elmo and Abby are the two most prevalent Muppets seen on Sesame Street daily, with "Elmo's World" and "Abby's Flying Fairy School" appearing in every episode of the show. Yet, Abby and Elmo's friendship is wonderful, as the two solve mysteries, problems, and have a great time.

In 2008, Abby starred in her first Sesame Street direct-to-DVD special, Abby in Wonderland, where she and the other Sesame Street gang play characters from the classic "Alice in Wonderland" stories. Abby encounters the Count-erpillar, Elmo the Red Rabbit, Grover the Mad-Hatter, Zoe the Doormouse, the Cookie Monster Cheshire Cat and Oscar the Grouch of Hearts. Abby is joined in her adventure by her traveling companions, a talking cookie and bottle of milk.

Abby Cadabby has quickly risen to the ranks of one of the most popular Muppet characters on Sesame Street. Not only does she appear in every episode in "Abby's Flying Fairy School," but she also appears in nearly every Street Story as well, using her magic to cause/solve problems.

ABBY CADABBY AND LESLIE CARRARA-RUDOLPH
Abby Cadabby is the first major character performed by Muppeteer Leslie Carrara-Rudolph. When she was cast as Abby, Leslie proved why she was the only performer who could truly bring this character to life. Leslie's energy, spirit, and passion makes Abby more than just another girly-girl fairy character, it makes Abby real and magical. In an interview with The Muppet Mindset, Leslie revealed that when she first saw the Abby puppet, she fell in love. "I told them, you're going to have to cut this puppet off my arm." But what Abby has given Leslie is a life-changing thing: "I love piloting Abby. We have Make A Wish kids on set, we do military outreach, we deal with kids who deal with issues of hunger." Truly, Leslie and Abby are a match made in heaven.

ABBY CADABBY EPISODES
Since she arrived in Season 37, Abby Cadabby has been a major part of Sesame Street episodes. Here are just some of the episodes where Abby plays a major part.
  • Season 37: Episode 4109 - Abby comes to Sesame Street
  • Season 37: Episode 4110 - Abby's first day of school
  • Season 38: Episode 4139 - Abby plays the Letter "P" game
  • Season 38: Episode 4140 - Abby gives everyone tutus with a magic spell
  • Season 38: Episode 4157 - Abby learns to make believe
  • Season 39: Episode 4173 - Abby thinks Oscar is a prince
  • Season 39: Episode 4177 - Abby's first sleepover
  • Season 40: Episode 4189 - Abby turns Chris and Baby Bear into bees
  • Season 40: Episode 4191 - Abby changes the seasons
  • Season 40: Episode 4199 - Abby comes down with a case of Sparkle Speckle Fairy Freckles
  • Season 40: Episode 4210 - Abby rides her tricycle
  • Season 40: Episode 4238 - Abby helps Leela get ready for a party
WHY DOES SESAME STREET NEED ABBY CADABBY? Abby Cadabby brings a new, magical perspective to Sesame Street. Not only is she the first prominent female character in over a decade, she is also technically a foreigner in that she comes from somewhere new and must learn new things. Her magic spells have given the Sesame Street writers a fun new device for their stories as well, using the magic to either start the plot or finish it.

But what makes Abby so special and necessary is that she represents the curiosity and the energy of the children watching. Although she is a pink girl fairy, Abby still appeals to the young boys watching because she is energetic and a ton of fun. Her interactions with every character on Sesame Street are wonderful. Whether she's driving Oscar batty with her cuteness, keeping Telly sane, or using her magic to help Elmo or Big Bird, Abby works with everyone in a funny, adorable, and magical way.

Weekly Muppeteer Wednesdays: Leslie Carrara-Rudolph

As always, today's Weekly Muppeteer Wednesday was written by Tom Stroud.

LESLIE CARRARA-RUDOLPH

Notable Muppets...
Abby Cadabby, Spamela Hamderson, Prairie Dawn’s Mom, various Anything Muppets and monsters

WHO IS LESLIE CARRARA-RUDOLPH?

Leslie Carrara-Rudolph grew up as a Muppet fan, and, like many other Muppeteers, made puppets when she was young. She started out in small theater companies, playing roles such as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. One day a friend of hers recommended Leslie to Kirk Thatcher, her boyfriend at the time. She was invited to an audition, which was incredibly crowded, and took two days.  Bill Barretta was judging her audition, where for her monologue she did The Wizard of Oz in two minutes, a trick of hers. Before she could sing, Barretta stopped her, and told her she didn’t need to sing, and asked her about herself instead. She made it down to the last two people at the audition, after which she was hired.

Her first role was on Muppets Tonight, playing "Bay of Pigswatch" character Spamela Hamderson, who soon expanded beyond the sketch, being used as a "bimbo" pig character whose seemingly only value was her attractiveness. It was on the set of Muppets Tonight where she met her future husband, Assistant Musical Director and friend of The Muppet Mindset, Paul Rudolph. She later worked on the second season of The Wubbulous World of Dr. Suess, where she played roles such as Little Cat A and Morton the Elephant Bird, as well as Animal Jam, where she played Edi the Zebra.

She first heard about the character of Abby Cadabby from Kevin Clash, who convinced her to audition for the fairy character that they were developing for Sesame Street. She went to an audition, and had to perform a puppet that looked like Kermit with braids wearing a dress. This is where she first used Abby’s voice and personality. That night, Kevin called her to tell her she got the part, and she was, of course, overjoyed to hear it. She has been performing Abby since season 37 of Sesame Street, and little girls everywhere have falen in love with the character, who has also earned her own weekly segment on the show, "Abby’s Flying Fairy School."

Leslie continues to work on Sesame Street, both as a main performer with Abby Cadabby and a background performer of various Anything Muppets, monsters, and animals. She also continues her work with her original puppet character Lolly, who she designed and originated herself.

Sesame Street DVD Reviews: Count on Sports and Abby in Wonderland

Welcome to the first installment of the newest Muppet Mindset article series, Sesame Street Saturdays. Every Saturday, The Muppet Mindset will feature an article or review of something related to Sesame Street. Today, we focus on some recent Sesame DVDs, starting with "Count on Sports."

Sesame Street: Count on Sports
DVD Review

Shane Keating (Oscarfan on Muppet Central Forum) - Math and sports. They go together like peanut butter and jelly, ham and eggs, rock and roll, paperclips and “a good time” and Ernie and Bert. Wow! What a nice segue into this review of the 2008 Sesame video, “Count on Sports”! “Count on Sports” is one of the funniest Sesame videos ever and should defiantly have a look taken at.

OVERALL PRESENTATION
The video starts with Bert, who plans to spend his day reading his book, “Math and Me”. But, if there’s one thing Bert should’ve learn since 1969 is that his quiet time is bound to be ruined by Ernie. And lo and behold, Ernie barges through their apartment, dragging a news desk and huge TV into the room, as it’s time for him to host “ESSN” (Ernie’s Sport Show News). He even has his own suit and jacket prepared.

Ernie’s show covers the subject of math in sports. He suckers Bert in with the idea, the fact that Bernice works behind the scenes and nice duds he can wear (My favorite part occurs here where Bert complements the new tie and asks of its origin, then we see Ernie holding up Bert’s trademark sweater with a tie-shaped hole in it.) Among Ernie’s correspondents are Grover (who covers golf and basketball), Prairie Dawn (who covers gymnastics and soccer), Bernice, and Murray (who covers baseball). Murray’s part is especially funny, as he finds shapes on a baseball field, while the game is still playing!

The video gives some very helpful math lessons for kids. Kids learn that directions such as up, down, forward and backward are considered math, as well as shapes (introducing kids to the “sphere”) and sizes, like big, small, short and tall.

The segments included are mostly about sports, but some having a number theme. Some of them were edited, which disappointed me. One odd thing is that they used two film segments from the Mexican Sesame Street co-production, Plaza Sesamo. The video includes three celebrity appearances in the program itself, including Vince Carter (demonstrating short and tall with Grover), Dominique Dawes (who shows fast, slow, forward, backward, up and down) and Venus Williams (who plays imaginary tennis with Elmo). Also featured is a new song by Grover, Elmo and Zoe, titled “The 7th Inning Stretch Song”. It’s not the greatest Sesame song, but I’ve heard worse.

BONUS FEATURES
One thing I like about the recent Sesame videos is the bonus segments we get with them. On this DVD, we get a 2007 segment featuring Elmo, his pet goldfish Dorothy and a couple of the New York Jets. While not really relating to math, it’s does keep in with the theme of sports.

Plus, as a special surprise (at the time of the DVD release), three full episodes of Sesame Workshop’s newest animated mini-series “Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures” are included. These were a real treat, as when the DVD came out, it wasn’t announced that the segments would turn up in the 2008 episodes, so fans weren’t sure if they would even air in America. The episodes included are “Tiny Town” (later aired in episode 4161), “Inventors” (later included in episode 4185) and “Mountain Climbers” (which has yet to air. Shame, as this was my personal favorite).

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
This is, hands down, one of my favorite Sesame Street videos. Chock full of hilarious scenes, great segments and a great choice of bonus features, this is definitely a recommended DVD to have!

Abby in Wonderland DVD Review

WRITER'S NOTE: Please keep in mind that I'm writing this review as an 18 year old male Sesame Street fan. I will have different tastes than, let's say, a five year old little girl who is also a fan of the show. Thanks!

Ryan Dosier - Sesame Workshop's latest outlet for their classic characters is the new direct-to-DVD, 41 minute Abby in Wonderland(the special is also showing in select Kidtoons Theaters). Starring, of course, Sesame Street's newest main addition to the cast: Abby Cadabby playing herself as she's whisked off into the twisted realm of Wonderland. Co-starring alongside Abby are more of her friends from Sesame Street, including Elmo (as the White Rabbit), Cookie Monster (as the Cheshire Cookie Cat), and Grover (as the Mad Hatter).

PLOT SYNOPSIS
Based on Lewis Carroll's classic children's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Abby in Wonderland is an enchanting tale that follows Abby Cadabby down the rabbit hole and through Wonderland.

The special opens with Abby piling a table with colorful books. As she works, she's greeted by her friends Grover, Rosita, and Zoe. Once they pass, Abby sighs and examines her books. She tells the viewers that these are all of her favorite books of fairy tales. She then proceeds into a song about how she longs to have her own fairy tale. During the song she's joined by Anything Muppets straight out of fairy tales.

After her longing song and dance number, Abby is visited by Elmo, who's very impressed by Abby's collection of books. He's most impressed by his favorite story, Alice in Wonderland. A clever name gag occurs and Elmo and Abby decide to read the book. Mid-way through the first page, Abby starts to fall asleep. She awakes only to realize that Elmo has left her side, she calls out for him and instead finds the White (Red) Rabbit (played by Elmo). The Rabbit looks at his pocket watch and realizes he's late and darts off. Abby, confused by this occurrence, gives chase.

Soon enough, Abby has fallen down the rabbit hole and has caught up with the Rabbit--but only briefly, as he's still late. Abby starts to give chase, but trips and loses her wand. It lands in the back pocket of the Rabbit, who disappears behind a door that is way too small for Abby to fit through. Luckily for Abby, however, she has the aid of a talking cookie and bottle (and some clever rhyming) to help her enter Wonderland. Almost immediately upon entering this new world, Abby meets the Counterpillar (the Count von Count) and Rose-ita (Rosita). Rose-ita and the Counterpillar tell Abby about all the wonders of being small and counting small things.

Abby returns to her normal size and runs into the Rabbit again. She gives chase to him, running past Tweedle-Dee (Bert) and Tweedle-Dum (Ernie) in an extremely brief (albeit very funny) cameo. Abby loses sight of the Rabbit again and finds herself in the presence of the Cheshire Cookie Cat (Cookie Monster) who tells her that the Rabbit is probably late for a tea party with the Mad Hatter. Cookie Monster's performance here is probably the highlight of the special--he truly stole the show.

Continuing her quest, Abby meets the Mad Hatter (Grover), the Doormouse (Zoe), and finally catches up to the Rabbit. Abby is overwhelmed with the Mad Hatter's attempts to sell her a hat and is thrust into the "T-Party" he's throwing. Abby asks the Hatter why he's mad all the time. The Mad Hatter tells her that he is really a Hatter of many emotions and transitions into a peppy song full of numerous hats and feelings.

Abby finally confronts the Rabbit about her wand in his pocket. The Rabbit reveals that the pocket the wand fell into is now agape with a huge hole, "It must've fell out in the woods!" the Rabbit laments. Abby, distraught, returns to the woods in search of her wand. When her quest turns up no wand, even with the help of the Rabbit, she and the Rabbit sing a song about her desire to return home.
Immediately after the song, the Rabbit realizes he's, once again, late, and rushes off to "his majesty's croquet game." Abby takes a few clever turns and winds up in the kingdom of the King of Hearts (ironically portrayed by Oscar the Grouch). The King has Abby's wand in his possession, and tells Abby the only way she can have it back is by beating him at a game of croquet.

Abby takes on the King's challenge, but is thwarted by his cheating ways. The Rabbit and Abby recover the wand from the King in a larger-than-life way, and Abby finally awakes from her dream. After her adventure, Abby has learned that she doesn't need to be bigger or older to do great things, she just has to try.

The special finishes with a new version of "Little Things" performed by Elmo and Abby.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
I felt this special severely underperformed. Based on earlier expectations for this, I feel like it really didn't come through. I think the short length of the lack of characters may have affected it, but the biggest problem was the short run time.

It would've been nice (and expected) to see Big Bird, Snuffy, Baby Bear, and Telly in special, Wonderland roles, but the short run time really didn't allow for it. There wasn't too much or too little time spent on one part of the story either, it was just too short for the amount of story that needed to be told.

All in all, the special was decent for old-school fans, with memorable, scene-stealing appearances from Grover, Cookie Monster, and The Count, and a quick cameo by Ernie and Bert. The lack of Big Bird is extremely disheartening, and the over-inclusion of Elmo IS expected but wasn't all that necessary.

Again, the high points of the special are Grover, The Count, and most of all Cookie Monster, beautifully designed sets, clever writing, and stellar performances all around. The lows are poorly written songs, lack of certain main-stay characters, and length.

I highly recommend this DVD to anyone with a son or a daughter who loves the show currently, but I don't think hardcore, old-school Sesame fans would enjoy it nearly as much, but I guess that's what you can expect from a release intended for kids.
