We're excited to announce that the Sesame Street Design Contest for WeLoveFine is now open for voting and rating! The grand prize for this contest is huge: a visit to the offices of Sesame Street where the winner will meet with the creative team and have the design showcased in their offices! Cast your votes and start ranking the best of the designs (because there are quite a few really, really lame ones). There are still 18 days to cast your votes because voting ends January 28th.
Muppets Most Wanted has gone publicity crazy this week. First there was a new promo video spot highlighting how excited the internet is about the movie, and then major entertainment websites across the internet posted awesome articles about how excited they really are! IGN has a fantastic article about their time on set in Los Angeles. So does Ain't It Cool News, and Bleeding Cool, and TotalFilm. Coincidentally, the days these big-time press people were on set in Los Angeles were the same days I was on set as well. It's such a blast reading this articles and reliving my unbelievable time with the Muppets. Hopefully I'll get clearance from Disney soon to post my own article discussing the awesome.

Last week we alerted you to a new Sesame Street t-shirt design contest over at WeLoveFine. Well, this week the t-shirt design contests just keep coming! This time, our friends at Threadless are hosting their second design contest featuring the Muppets. Oscar the Grouch nearly met his match this week in a new video from Mashable. In the video, Oscar faces off with internet sensation Grumpy Cat in a battle of the scowling, cantankerous personalities. It's not to be missed!
Yesterday was the birthday of good friend of the Muppets, Whoopi Goldberg! What better way for Whoopi to celebrate than by having some Muppet friends stop by her show The View? Well, that's just what happened as Kermit the Frog and Pepe the King Prawn stopped by to see Whoopi. The official website for Muppets Most Wantedlaunched this week as an offshoot of Muppets.com. There's not much here that die-hard Muppet fans won't already know, but on the site you can watch the teaser trailer for the movie, read bios of the main cast members (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Walter, Animal, Gonzo, Sam the Eagle, Constantine, Dominic, Jean Pierre Napoleon, and Nadya), see a gallery of stills from the film (that we've been looking at for three months), and download desktop and phone backgrounds. There are some nice new Muppet poser puppet images, but that's about all the new stuff. I'm sure we'll see it updated as we get closer to the release of Muppets Most Wanted on March 21, 2014!
Our good friends at WeLoveFine are hosting yet another Sesame Street themed t-shirt design contest. Anyone can enter the contest up to five times, and there are no limitations as long as Sesame characters are used. The last day to submit is December 3rd. Sesame Street is dominating our News Update this week! Earlier this week Sesame also announced that Jimmy Fallon and the Roots will be tagging along on their famous float in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jimmy and the Roots are sure to only add to the awesomeness of the Sesame Street float by being there--I can't wait to find out what song they perform! The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on November 28th. Check your local listings! And for a reminder of why this is an awesome idea, watch Jimmy Fallon, the Roots, and the Sesame Street gang perform the "Sesame Street Theme" with classroom instruments!
The Muppets will finally have a place at Walt Disney World's EPCOT theme park starting in March as Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy topiaries will be unveiled and will headline the annual InternationalFlower and Garden Festival. According to a press release, "Kermit the Frog will find it is easy being green when his artfully-crafted character topiary debuts during the 21st Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival presented by HGTV March 5 to May 18, 2014 at Walt Disney World Resort. A few months ago, The Jim Henson Company teamed up with Talenthouse to open up submissions for a Fraggle Rock design contest. I'm still a little confused about if said design is intended for a t-shirt or all of the merchandising planned for Fraggle Rock's 30th Anniversary. Apparently, so were some of the artists who contributed, because some of the entries are... interesting, to say the least. There were over 500 entries in the contest, and way too many to look at... but that can only be a good thing! Our pals over at ToughPigs.com have pulled 50 of their favorite entries out, and most of them are fantastic, so be sure to check them out! We here at The Muppet Mindset don't like to do the exact same thing... so instead, we're only showing off 10 of our favorite entries! (Totally not because we're lazy.) But we highly suggest checking out all of the entries (including the super weird ones).

Exciting news came from the likes of Ape Entertainment late last week when they announced that their line of comic books starring the Sesame Street characters would soon be coming to stores. USA Today broke the exciting story of how, for the first time, fans will be able to bring Sesame Street home in comic book form. There are some great quotes from Ape CEO David Hedgecock, but the really exciting thing here is the first-look artwork. Mostly the fact that the art is by the incredibly talented friend of the blog Amy Mebberson (Muppet Peter Pan, Muppet Sherlock Holmes) drew the art for the cover! We have since learned that even more BOOM! Studios alumni are working on the Sesame comics, including artist James Silvani (Muppet King Arthur, Darkwing Duck) and producer Aaron Sparrow. We at The Muppet Mindset are absolutely thrilled to see what exciting things will come from this! Check out the art below:
One of the highlights of awards season every year is The Webby Awards, which honors the best of the best of entertainment on the internet in the past year. Why are the Webbys a highlight every year? Because for the past four or five years, the Muppets have been winners or nominees each year. From "Ode to Joy" and "Bohemian Rhapsody," the Muppets have become Webby legends. Well, this year is no different! The Muppets received a nomination for their "Muppet Show Theme Song" music video with OK Go in the "Online Film and Video: Viral" category. The Muppets: Never-Ending Mahna Mahna Phenomena is also nominated for the "Movie and Film" category. SesameStreet.org is nominated for four Webbys including "Websites: Youth," "Websites: Charitable Organizations/Non-Profit," "Websites: Family/Parenting" and "Websites: Best Home/Welcome Page" Make sure you cast your votes every day and let's bring the Muppets yet another Webby win!
Speaking of awesome things on the internet... four incredibly dedicated Muppet/Sesame Street fans recently created a real-people version of the classic "Fat Cat Scat" song from Sesame Street starring Bip Bipadotta and three Anything Muppets. You have to watch it... right now. It'll blow you away.
Remember last year when all the hubbub was going on surrounding various Muppet t-shirt design contests at WeLoveFine and, most notably, Threadless.com? Well, Sesame Street has taken a major cue from The Muppets Studio because there is currently a Sesame Street T-shirt Design Challenge going on at Threadless!! From April 12 - May 3, 2012, artists can submit their own t-shirt designs inspired by Sesame Street! The entries will be voted on and a winner will be chosen and produced. For the past few months, the Muppets have been the major darlings of Entertainment Weekly magazine. The Muppet Show cast reunited, the first image from The Muppets (and Walter) were revealed, and Kermit graced the cover of the magazine all in this past year alone. Well, the love for the Muppets continues in this week's issue, Entertainment Weekly's "Best and Worst of 2011" issue. As you can see at right, Kermit and Miss Piggy are very prominent on the cover of the issue out this week--right alongside George Clooney, Harry Potter, and all of the other prominent features in pop culture this year.You can read all about the issue on Entertainment Weekly's website, and you can find it on newsstands everywhere now!
One of the favorite props in The Muppet Movie is Fozzie Bear's Studebaker (well, technically his uncle's Studebaker)--a bear's natural habitat, obviously. Well, unfortunately, the Studebaker used in the film is in need of some serious repairs, as outlined by local ABC affiliate where the Studebaker Museum is located. The repair costs are in the upwards of $40,000... and it would be a crying shame to see Fozzie's Studebaker fall into complete disrepair. The Museum's website features an "Adopt-A-Car Program" with a wide range of donation options for adopting one of the Studebakers. Perhaps a generous and well-off Muppet fan might have the means to the end of fixing this true legend of a car.
A brand new, must-have book has been released recently for Muppet fans written by longtime Muppet writer and veteran of Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, Joseph A. Bailey. The book is called Memoirs of a Muppet Writer and is available on Amazon now for only $15. Below is an excerpt from the official description of the book!
"In his 20 year affiliation with Jim Henson's Muppets Joseph A. Bailey was a staff writer on both Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. Well, Walter is back in an exclusive video from backstage on NBC as everyone's favorite new Muppet checks out the legendary Muppet Pipes in a closet in a guest room painted by Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Jerry Juhl. It's truly amazing to see old Muppet history meeting new Muppet greatness. Check out the video below!
This past Wednesday, Archaia Comics released a brand new comic book from a screenplay by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl, Jim Henson's The Tale of Sand with illustrations by Ramon Perez. I have yet to pick up the comic, but it's on my "Must-Do-Immediately" list. BleedingCool.com has a great look at a really cool edition of the comic where they talk a lot about how great the comic is and what a wonderful tribute it is to both Jim and Jerry. Be sure to pick up your copy of The Tale of Sand as soon as you can!
Our good friends at WeLoveFine T-Shirts have released a whole horde of fantastic shirts featuring The Muppets and Sesame Street characters, including the winners of their recent Muppet t-shirt design contest. But the highlights recently are various 8-Bit designs that pit the characters in pixelated forms, a la the classic video games of the 1980s. There's a great one with the Muppets (see at right), Sesame Street, and featuring Bert and Ernie in Super Mario Bros.-esque poses. I've got to get at least one of these... now the only problem is figuring out which one!
Finally, Amazon.com has released images and slight details on the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Muppets. No official release date has been given yet, but rumors of a March 20, 2012 release are abounding around the internet. There are four different versions of the movie that will be made available on Blu-ray and DVD next Spring. First up is the Three-Disc Blu-ray "Wocka Wocka Value Pack" featuring the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy, as well as the Soundtrack. Next is the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack featuring the Blu-ray and DVD. Then, the Single-Disc DVD with the Soundtrack. And, lastly, only the DVD, whose cover art is not confirmed yet. I don't know about you, but I'm not thrilled with the cover art on any version... but I'll just be excited to own the movie on Blu-ray and DVD the day it's available (if not before) (I don't know how that would work, but whatever).

I honestly can't pick a shirt I like the best... they're all very, very well done. But I know for sure that I will be purchasing Kenny's and Dave's, and probably the Electric Mayhem Tiki shirt as well. The shirts are $25 dollars each and come in varying colors and levels of awesome. Be sure to get one for yourself and secretly hope it gets there before Wednesday!
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, the Muppets teamed up with UL Fire Safety Labs, which debuted with the UL Fire Safety PSA, and now continues with two new videos: Holiday Safety with Kermit, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, and Beaker, and Cooking Safety with Kermit and The Swedish Chef. Earlier this week, The Muppets Studio debuted three Muppets parody posters just in time for the release of Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (ugh). The posters feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Rowlf the Dog parodying characters from the popular Twilight series, Edward Cullen (the sparkly vampire), Bella Swan, and Jacob (the shirtless werewolf). Rowlf's poster is featured at right, and you can see the other two from the links above!
Muppet fans over seas have been mostly getting the shaft in all of this movie promotion, and especially in the much later release date. But they've finally got a win under their belts, with the amazing, epic United Kingdom movie theater exclusive commercial for the Orange cell phone company. The commercial features the Muppets selling out for Orange and completely revamping their show. Thankfully, we still get to see a countless troupe of Muppets singing and dancing and being awesome. A few weeks ago, we mentioned that DisneyStore.com would be releasing a Walter plush toy very soon. Well... he's here! Yes, Walter is finally available for purchase! Walter is 18 inches tall (that's how tall he actually is!), costs $16.50 plus shipping, but he looks like he's worth every penny. Trust me, once the movie is out people everywhere will be clamoring for a Walter plush, so pick yours up while you've got the chance! I ordered mine already (which is really the only reason this is included in the News Update).
And now for the Amazing Muppet Talk Show Appearances of The Week section... first up, Miss Piggy on Jimmy Kimmel Live from Monday, where she and Jimmy discuss the movie, her stardom, the rest of the Muppets, and so much more. The pig looked gorgeous, and you can see her entire interview for yourself below!
The very next day, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Walter, Gonzo, Fozzie, Animal, Scooter, Sam Eagle, Rowlf, Bunsen, Beaker, and The Swedish Chef all appeared on ABC's Dancing With the Stars to perform a massive song and dance number to "Life's a Happy Song" from The Muppets (and Statler and Waldorf appeared to heckle). This is probably my absolute favorite of all the Muppet appearances we've seen in this fervor of promotion for the movie--and you can see the whole thing below!!
As if that weren't enough, on Wednesday, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon! As we Muppet fans are all aware, the Muppets are always at their best on Jimmy's show, and this appearance was absolutely not an exception. Below you'll find the interview segment with Kermit and Piggy, plus the frog and pig playing "Password," hosted by Jimmy and played alongside the always-wonderful Martin Short and R.E.M.'s leading man, Michael Stipe. And closing off the week of Muppet appearances yesterday was the massive Muppet takeover of Good Morning America on ABC. Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Pepe, Fozzie, Animal, Rizzo, The Swedish Chef... the gang was all on hand to celebrate their movie and goof around with Robin Roberts, George Snuffleupagus (spelling?), and the rest of the GMA crew all morning long as they overtook Times Square! Lucky for you, our good friends at ToughPigs.com have every single clip from yesterday's show in one convenient place! This past weekend on ABC Family, an exclusive "All Access First Look" at The Muppets aired during the Disney animated classic Beauty and the Beast. Miss Piggy hosted the event, constantly asserting that this was "her" movie--with all the other weirdos as well. To finish off the event, they showed an exclusive clip from the film. You can check out the whole thing below!
As if that weren't enough, the very next day the Muppets appeared on Disney Channel during airings of tween comedies Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up! to show off their "Muppet Movie Star Secrets." The segments aired during commercial breaks and showed Kermit and Miss Piggy offering their celebrity advice to the cast of Disney Channel's A.N.T. Farm. It was a pretty cute appearance... and once again you can see it all below! (Thanks to our friend Chris Stulz for both of these videos!!)
A spectacular interview with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem surfaced recently on WhatsThatDudePlay.com. The interview is incredibly well-written, in character, and hysterical. I honestly can't remember the last time Dr. Teeth was written so perfectly. Be sure to read it all the way through! Every answer is truly a gem. By the way... how incredible is it that we're seeing an interview with the Electric Mayhem?! Has that ever happened? I don't know... but I know I want to see it happen again.
The other day we linked to 14 brand new interviews with the cast of The Muppets from Coming-Soon.net. Well, as it turns out, there are even more interviews to be seen! This time the fine folks at tapedimension on YouTube have posted some fantastic Muppet content over the past few days, including threefullparts of B-Roll footage from behind the scenes of the film (beware of major spoilers) and those previously mentioned interviews with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, and Martin Baker, writer Nicholas Stoller, choreographer Michael Rooney, and... wait for it... Uncle Deadly!! The interview with the unbelievable Uncle Deadly is below. Make sure you watch.
The YouTube channel for Walt Disney Pictures Australia recently uploaded another semi-parody, mostly accidental, trailer for The Muppets. This time, the Muppets take on beloved tropes of Bollywood cinema, and end up carrying it through to the end, even after realizing that it was a typo and should have said "Hollywood." Check out the trailer for singing penguins, lots of dancing, and Muppets! (Plus, Gonzo's dream of going to Bombay, India and becoming a movie star is sort of, kind of coming true!)
Some attendees at the Savannah Film Festival in Georgia were treated to a surprise screening of The Muppets as the Director's Choice film for the entire festival. Most of the audience at the festival was critics or film snobs (in a good way), so this was a great outlet for Disney to test the waters and see what sort of market The Muppets truly has. Well, lucky for Disney, the reviews that have come out of the Film Festival screening have been 100% positive. Chud.com posted a quick, highly positive video review immediately after seeing the movie, and have promised a full review soon. Meanwhile, the official review for the Film Festival was written by Susan Kemp, who, in the article, calls herself a "Grinch." Even so, she was immediately and completely charmed by the film and gave it a glowing review. Both of these are spoiler free, so be sure to read them to get a perspective on the critic's views! Also on that note, look out for The Muppet Mindset's exclusive review of The Muppets tomorrow!! On Tuesday night, the Muppets teamed up with Google + to host a "Hangout" event on YouTube with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Jason Segel, Walter, James Bobin, and Nicholas Stoller all showing up for attendance to talk about their new movie for 17 minutes straight. The live-linking of the feed was a little choppy due to such a high-volume of hangers out (which can only be a good thing), but the Frog, the Pig, the Walter, and the Segel were all fantastic and fun. Those cool cats (note: I have no idea if the company is actually run by cats) over at Threadless.com have printed 25 Muppet t-shirt designs from their recent contest (the contest which brought us James Carroll's Muppetational Mosaic t-shirt). Some of the shirts they decided to print are absolutely awesome (and I absolutely must have them) and some are just sort of "meh," but either way, it's fantastic to see Muppet fan artists rewarded in an official fashion! Congratulations to all those printed!

Segel delivered a fantastic, honest, charming interview and, for me at least, solidified once and for all why he is the exact right person to be helming the Great Muppet Renaissance (patent pending) that The Muppets is bringing us in just a few weeks. Muppets Most Wanted has gone publicity crazy this week. First there was a new promo video spot highlighting how excited the internet is about the movie, and then major entertainment websites across the internet posted awesome articles about how excited they really are! IGN has a fantastic article about their time on set in Los Angeles. So does Ain't It Cool News, and Bleeding Cool, and TotalFilm. Coincidentally, the days these big-time press people were on set in Los Angeles were the same days I was on set as well. It's such a blast reading this articles and reliving my unbelievable time with the Muppets. Hopefully I'll get clearance from Disney soon to post my own article discussing the awesome.
