APRIL 3, 2014

The fine folks at Toyota have released an onslaught of hysterical new videos featuring the Muppets and Terry Crews in the Toyota Highlander in between takes. There a few videos and each of them is funnier than the last. Watch them all below!

Our friends at Threadless have announced the three winners of their Muppets Most Wanted themed t-shirt design contest. The three winning shirts feature Beaker, Sam Eagle, and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Each shirt costs $25, but it's totally worth it. I already bought the Electric Mayhem shirt and it's seriously awesome. You can buy each of the shirts and see the winning designs on Threadless.

Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge, the awesome new reality competition show from The Jim Henson Company and Syfy has aired two episodes so far, but if you don't have cable or weren't home to watch, you might've missed them. Well luckily for you, Syfy has both episodes on their website to watch right now! Head on over to the Syfy website to watch both episodes, because you really won't want to miss them--especially this week's incredible Skeksis-themed design challenge. If you are in Canada, check out the Space Channel's website for the episodes.

The Great Gonzo acted as grand marshall for NASCAR's Auto Club 400 on March 23rd. He got to shout at drivers to start their engines, and thanks to our friends at Muppet Stuff you can watch video footage of it! Check out the video below, and jump to two minutes in for the Gonzo parts.

Telly Monster teamed up with Mashable and our friend Annie Colbert for a fantastically fun new video all about microscopes! Dive in by watching the video below!

Abby Cadabby helped light the Empire State Building blue for Autism Awareness yesterday. Using her magic (and a special blue wand), Abby turned the building blue. Watch video of the lighting ceremony below!

NEWS UPDATE: November 14, 2013

Last week we alerted you to a new Sesame Street t-shirt design contest over at WeLoveFine. Well, this week the t-shirt design contests just keep coming! This time, our friends at Threadless are hosting their second design contest featuring the Muppets. The contest is meant to tie into Muppets Most Wanted and prizes include $2000 cash, a $500 Threadless gift card, and signed Muppets Most Wanted stuff. Submissions will only be accepted until December 3rd. For more information about the contest, including rules and guidelines, be sure to visit Threadless. Start the art, Muppet fans!

Oscar the Grouch nearly met his match this week in a new video from Mashable. In the video, Oscar faces off with internet sensation Grumpy Cat in a battle of the scowling, cantankerous personalities. It's not to be missed!

Yesterday was the birthday of good friend of the Muppets, Whoopi Goldberg! What better way for Whoopi to celebrate than by having some Muppet friends stop by her show The View? Well, that's just what happened as Kermit the Frog and Pepe the King Prawn stopped by to see Whoopi. Check out the hilarious video below, which includes a sneak peek at Lady Gaga & the Muppets Holiday Spectacular which airs this Thanksgiving.

NEWS UPDATE: May 15, 2013

As Fraggle Rock's 30th Anniversary continues its year-long celebration, big time news sources are showing their love for Jim Henson's classic show. This includes TIME.com, which has released a great new article "Ten Facts About Fraggle Rock" with help from Muppeteer extraordinaire Dave Goelz. There's some really interesting stuff in there--and I did actually learn some stuff I didn't know. But perhaps the biggest reveal of the article is that The Jim Henson Company is still working on a Fraggle Rock Movie. Who knows if or when it will happen... but it's good to hear official word that one is still in the works.

Speaking of Fraggle Rock's 30th Anniversary, a brand new release of the Complete Series of the show on DVD came out yesterday. As a preview of the features of the release, The Jim Henson Company, Nerdist, and MTV have partnered once again to present two amazing videos from the bonus features. First is a fantastic chat with head writer/co-creator Jerry Juhl and Gobo Fraggle. The second video features Muppet workshop genius Faz Fazakas and Cotterpin Doozer. Check out both fantastic videos below!

A few months ago, Sesame Street announced its first ever open casting call searching for a new Latino human neighbor for the show. Well, they've finally made their decision in the form of Ismael Cruz Cordova, who will portray Armando on the show! Congratulations to Ismael, I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I can't wait to meet and get to know Armando next season on Sesame Street. Lucky for you, our friends over at ToughPigs.com have collected a host of different videos about Armando's journey to Sesame Street, including his big reveal on Good Morning America.

As you've probably heard by now, The Muppets... Again! was seen filming on Hollywood Boulevard last Wednesday night. The folks at SlashFilm have deduced that the scenes they were filming may indicate that The Muppets... Again! may open mere seconds after The Muppets ended. Check out the pictures to decide for yourself. As some of you might also know... I just happened to be on set that night. I cannot reveal anything at all, but you can expect an article about my experiences on Friday!

Finally, our friends over at Threadless are hosting yet another Muppet-related t-shirt design contest. This time, they're paying tribute to Fraggle Rock's 30th Anniversary as well with a host of amazing (and a host of not-so-amazing) t-shirt designs featuring the Fraggles, Doozers, and Gorgs. There are a ton of entries (and our friends at ToughPigs are reviewing them all), but below are five of my personal favorites.
The final entry comes from our friend and frequent featured artist and always-awesome James V. Carroll, so we're slightly biased... but c'mon, it's still awesome. (So are the others! And many more that I didn't feature here! Just go vote and decide for yourself, quit putting pressure on me--AHHHH!!!)

NEWS UPDATE: April 27, 2013

The 30th Anniversary website for Fraggle Rock has officially launched with a wealth of new information about what to expect from the show's upcoming anniversary promotions. This includes wall graphics in June, an all-encompassing collector's book in July, and (most exciting) a so-called "Classic Music Collection" in November, plus much more! This is only the beginning of the excitement, so be on the lookout for more!

But wait, there's more right here! A friend of the site alerted us the fact that select clips and episodes of Fraggle Rock would be playing on the TVs at the kids entertainment chain Chuck E. Cheese's. Our friend let us know that a partnership with The Jim Henson Company allowed for episodes of Fraggle Rock (and Pajanimals) to be shown in the restaurants. There's also talk of some Fraggle prizes being available for kids as well. So if you've got kids and they've been clamoring to go to Chuck E. Cheese's... now you've got a Fraggle-ish reason to go!

But wait, there's still more Fraggle news! The Muppet-loving t-shirt design website Threadless and The Jim Henson Company recently announced a new Fraggle Rock design contest for artists. Just like the Muppet and Sesame Street contests Threadless has held in the past, this contest allows artists to submit their work for t-shirt designs to be voted on by the masses. The prizes are incredible, including $2,500 cash and a "one of a kind, handcrafted Doozer, custom created for the Jim Henson Company for display use."! So if you're an artist who loves Fraggle Rock, get to designing and submitting your work!

And would you believe that we've still got more Fraggle stuff? Last weekend, the cable channel The Hub hosted its Fraggle Rock-A-Thon, a marathon of Fraggle Rock's greatest episodes. This marathon was hosted by Gobo Fraggle and Red Fraggle in new interstitials! Check out John Tartaglia and Karen Prell having a fantastic time as Gobo and Red promoting the show for The Hub in the video below, found by our friends at ToughPigs.com!

The Jim Henson Company is developing a brand new reality competition series for the Syfy Network. The Jim Henson Creature Shop will feature Brian Henson as a judge. Check out the press release from Syfy for more info: "For generations the craftsmen at The Jim Henson Creature Shop have brought to life imaginative, lovable and memorable characters that have enthralled audiences around the world. Now, aspiring creature makers will have an opportunity to win the job of a lifetime – an apprenticeship with the Creature Shop. Teams of amateur creators will face off to build elaborate and awe-inspiring creatures, ranging from animatronic monsters and fantastical puppets, to life-like beasts and beyond! Creations are judged by Brian Henson – son of Jim Henson and Chairman to the Henson empire – along with top industry experts. Executive producers: Brian Henson (The Jim Henson Company) and Joseph Freed."

Lastly, our friends at ToughPigs.com have scooped us again with news that Oscar-nominated Frost/Nixon actor Frank Langella has filmed a cameo for The Muppets... Again! The news comes straight from Deadline.com, a very reputable entertainment news source, so we can definitely count Mr. Langella on the list of cameos for The Muppets... Again!

NEWS UPDATE: April 12, 2012
Exciting news came from the likes of Ape Entertainment late last week when they announced that their line of comic books starring the Sesame Street characters would soon be coming to stores. USA Today broke the exciting story of how, for the first time, fans will be able to bring Sesame Street home in comic book form. There are some great quotes from Ape CEO David Hedgecock, but the really exciting thing here is the first-look artwork. Mostly the fact that the art is by the incredibly talented friend of the blog Amy Mebberson (Muppet Peter Pan, Muppet Sherlock Holmes) drew the art for the cover! We have since learned that even more BOOM! Studios alumni are working on the Sesame comics, including artist James Silvani (Muppet King Arthur, Darkwing Duck) and producer Aaron Sparrow. We at The Muppet Mindset are absolutely thrilled to see what exciting things will come from this! Check out the art below:
One of the highlights of awards season every year is The Webby Awards, which honors the best of the best of entertainment on the internet in the past year. Why are the Webbys a highlight every year? Because for the past four or five years, the Muppets have been winners or nominees each year. From "Ode to Joy" and "Bohemian Rhapsody," the Muppets have become Webby legends. Well, this year is no different! The Muppets received a nomination for their "Muppet Show Theme Song" music video with OK Go in the "Online Film and Video: Viral" category. The Muppets: Never-Ending Mahna Mahna Phenomena is also nominated for the "Movie and Film" category. SesameStreet.org is nominated for four Webbys including "Websites: Youth," "Websites: Charitable Organizations/Non-Profit," "Websites: Family/Parenting" and "Websites: Best Home/Welcome Page" Make sure you cast your votes every day and let's bring the Muppets yet another Webby win!

Speaking of awesome things on the internet... four incredibly dedicated Muppet/Sesame Street fans recently created a real-people version of the classic "Fat Cat Scat" song from Sesame Street starring Bip Bipadotta and three Anything Muppets. You have to watch it... right now. It'll blow you away.

Remember last year when all the hubbub was going on surrounding various Muppet t-shirt design contests at WeLoveFine and, most notably, Threadless.com? Well, Sesame Street has taken a major cue from The Muppets Studio because there is currently a Sesame Street T-shirt Design Challenge going on at Threadless!! From April 12 - May 3, 2012, artists can submit their own t-shirt designs inspired by Sesame Street! The entries will be voted on and a winner will be chosen and produced. The winner also receives $2,000 cash, a $250 Threadless gift card, a copy of My Life as a Furry Red Monster signed by Kevin Clash, a copy of The Wisdom of Big Bird (and the Dark Genius of Oscar the Grouch) signed by Caroll Spinney, and a copy of Sesame Street: A Celebration - 40 Years of Life on the Street signed by Joan Ganz Cooney. Can you say WOW?! Well what are you waiting for artists? Get out there and design the best Sesame Street t-shirt you possibly can!

NEWS UPDATE: November 10, 2011
This past weekend on ABC Family, an exclusive "All Access First Look" at The Muppets aired during the Disney animated classic Beauty and the Beast. Miss Piggy hosted the event, constantly asserting that this was "her" movie--with all the other weirdos as well. To finish off the event, they showed an exclusive clip from the film. You can check out the whole thing below!

As if that weren't enough, the very next day the Muppets appeared on Disney Channel during airings of tween comedies Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up! to show off their "Muppet Movie Star Secrets." The segments aired during commercial breaks and showed Kermit and Miss Piggy offering their celebrity advice to the cast of Disney Channel's A.N.T. Farm. It was a pretty cute appearance... and once again you can see it all below! (Thanks to our friend Chris Stulz for both of these videos!!)

A spectacular interview with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem surfaced recently on WhatsThatDudePlay.com. The interview is incredibly well-written, in character, and hysterical. I honestly can't remember the last time Dr. Teeth was written so perfectly. Be sure to read it all the way through! Every answer is truly a gem. By the way... how incredible is it that we're seeing an interview with the Electric Mayhem?! Has that ever happened? I don't know... but I know I want to see it happen again.

The other day we linked to 14 brand new interviews with the cast of The Muppets from Coming-Soon.net. Well, as it turns out, there are even more interviews to be seen! This time the fine folks at tapedimension on YouTube have posted some fantastic Muppet content over the past few days, including three full parts of B-Roll footage from behind the scenes of the film (beware of major spoilers) and those previously mentioned interviews with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, and Martin Baker, writer Nicholas Stoller, choreographer Michael Rooney, and... wait for it... Uncle Deadly!! The interview with the unbelievable Uncle Deadly is below. Make sure you watch.

The YouTube channel for Walt Disney Pictures Australia recently uploaded another semi-parody, mostly accidental, trailer for The Muppets. This time, the Muppets take on beloved tropes of Bollywood cinema, and end up carrying it through to the end, even after realizing that it was a typo and should have said "Hollywood." Check out the trailer for singing penguins, lots of dancing, and Muppets! (Plus, Gonzo's dream of going to Bombay, India and becoming a movie star is sort of, kind of coming true!)

Some attendees at the Savannah Film Festival in Georgia were treated to a surprise screening of The Muppets as the Director's Choice film for the entire festival. Most of the audience at the festival was critics or film snobs (in a good way), so this was a great outlet for Disney to test the waters and see what sort of market The Muppets truly has. Well, lucky for Disney, the reviews that have come out of the Film Festival screening have been 100% positive. Chud.com posted a quick, highly positive video review immediately after seeing the movie, and have promised a full review soon. Meanwhile, the official review for the Film Festival was written by Susan Kemp, who, in the article, calls herself a "Grinch." Even so, she was immediately and completely charmed by the film and gave it a glowing review. Both of these are spoiler free, so be sure to read them to get a perspective on the critic's views! Also on that note, look out for The Muppet Mindset's exclusive review of The Muppets tomorrow!! Ryan Dosier will be seeing it tonight and will share his thoughts with the internet at large for tomorrow's post. (Perhaps even at 11:11am on 11/11/11?)

On Tuesday night, the Muppets teamed up with Google + to host a "Hangout" event on YouTube with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Jason Segel, Walter, James Bobin, and Nicholas Stoller all showing up for attendance to talk about their new movie for 17 minutes straight. The live-linking of the feed was a little choppy due to such a high-volume of hangers out (which can only be a good thing), but the Frog, the Pig, the Walter, and the Segel were all fantastic and fun. You can check out the full video from the Google + Hangout below!

Those cool cats (note: I have no idea if the company is actually run by cats) over at Threadless.com have printed 25 Muppet t-shirt designs from their recent contest (the contest which brought us James Carroll's Muppetational Mosaic t-shirt). Some of the shirts they decided to print are absolutely awesome (and I absolutely must have them) and some are just sort of "meh," but either way, it's fantastic to see Muppet fan artists rewarded in an official fashion! Congratulations to all those printed!

The Muppets have teamed up with Viddy.com for some exclusive, interactive video content! What is Viddy, you ask? Well, check out the official description from the Viddy email:

Jason Segel appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday and talked for quite a bit about his exuberant Muppet fandom. Segel delivered a fantastic, honest, charming interview and, for me at least, solidified once and for all why he is the exact right person to be helming the Great Muppet Renaissance (patent pending) that The Muppets is bringing us in just a few weeks. You can watch the Muppet-focused portion of the interview below, and be sure to check out the full interview on The Tonight Show's website!

And to close up our massive News Update... check out the wonderful, charming, adorable interview with Kermit the Frog from yesterday's The Ellen Degeneres Show. That frog charms with the best of 'em, and Ellen is always a ton of fun. Enjoy!

Be sure to check back with The Muppet Mindset tomorrow for our exclusive early review of The Muppets after Ryan Dosier sees the film at the cast and crew screening in Los Angeles!

NEWS UPDATE: September 5, 2011

The historic (and Disney-owned) El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, on Hollywood Boulevard, where many scenes from The Muppets were filmed earlier this year, is hosting a special event this November through January to welcome the arrival of the first theatrical Muppet movie in 12 years. The event is being billed as The Most Sensational Muppet Party and takes place at The El Capitan and the adjacent Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store. From November 23rd to January 5th, families can join The El Capitan for finger sandwiches, fruit salad, cupcake decorating, and "Wocka Wocka Wocka" fun for everyone. In addition, every guest receives a commemorative photo and and a special gift. The El Capitan is also stating that there will be a Holiday Sing-a-Long with Kermit and Miss Piggy LIVE on stage before every movie. If you're in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area, this sounds like an event you can't pass up! For more information, check out The El Capitan online.

As you all know, last week Animal and Miss Piggy appeared on The Tonight Show with OK Go. Unfortunately, in an egregious error we never posted a link to the video. Thankfully, our good friends over at ToughPigs did all the hard work for us so all we have to do is mention their name and show off the video. So... thanks for that.

Our good friends at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia are having an amazing auction to benefit the center and all the good it does to spread the magic of puppetry throughout the world. This is a fantastic cause that I whole-heartedly support, especially when they offer spectacular auction items such as the gorgeous Palisades Toys Jim Henson action figure signed by puppet designer Bonnie Erickson. This also includes a candid shot of Jim, Bonnie, and the Jim Henson Muppet, also signed by Bonnie. It's a wonderful piece, and you should bid on it!

Finally, the chronicles of our friend James Carroll, designer of our awesome main page header, and the Threadless Muppet contest have come to an oh-so-satisfying conclusion. His gorgeous and explosive "Muppetational Mosaic" t-shirt is now available for sale online! For 48 hours only, you can buy the fantastic t-shirt for just $10.00. So... go buy two or seven while they're cheap and while they're awesome. Well... I guess they'll always be awesome. But still. Buy one. And wear it. Everywhere. How often can you own a t-shirt with Thog, George the Janitor, and Angus McGonagle on it? Never, that's how.

Threadless T-Shirt Contest

The Muppets Threadless T-Shirt Design Contest has come to a close and a winner has been announced: "Together Again" by shirt designer ponchodiazv which can be seen below...

Although this isn't a bad t-shirt by any means (including Rowlf and Scooter in the design wins style points for sure), this wasn't the shirt that won the popular vote in the challenge. The shirt design that received the highest average vote score belonged to our good friend (and designer of our header) James V. Carroll. His fan-favorite and mind-blowingly detailed "The Muppetational Mosaic," seen below...

So, you're probably asking, if the mosaic design won the highest score, why did the other design win? Well, that's because Threadless maintains the final decision on declaring a winner based on what they think their customers will buy, what they could easily print, etc. Thus, they've awarded the second place "Together Again" design with first place. But, fret not fans of The Muppetational Mosaic, because James has revealed that Threadless has indeed accepted his design as the second place winner and will be producing it as a t-shirt! Also in other exciting news, there's a decent chance that Threadless will produce other designs from the contest as well, which could lead to an entire wardrobe of awesome Muppet shirts--and an empty wallet for most Muppet fans. Worth it, though.

You'll be able to purchase "The Muppetational Mosaic" soon on Threadless and for now you can pre-order "Together Again" as part of a combo pack which includes the t-shirt, a poster, and Muppets: The Green Album on Disney's new MuppetsMusic.com.

Congratulations to both winners and we hope we'll get to congratulate even more designers soon if Threadless does decide to produce more!
