Last night, all of the who's who on the web turned out at the 14th Annual Webby Awards ceremony, hosted by The Office's B.J. Novak. Among these web wonders were The Muppets, winners of four Webbys (two actual Webbys and two People's Choice Webbys) for their insanely popular YouTube viral video "Bohemian Rhapsody."
It's a tradition at the Webbys for the winners to accept their trophies with a five-word speech. Last year, when Beaker accepted his award for "Ode to Joy" his five-words were obviously "meeps" but this year it was a hot topic among Muppet fans wondering which fuzzy funny friends they would send to accept the award since "Bohemian Rhapsody" had over 70 Muppets in the video. Personally, I was pulling for the singing cacti, but I didn't hold my breath.
Instead, The Muppets sent Animal and Floyd Pepper. Which, while surprising, makes complete sense when you think about it. Someone had to translate for Animal and keep him on a short leash! To hear the five-word speech and to laugh your head off, check out the link below...

Floyd Pepper accepting a Webby Award in 2010? This goes right up on my list of "awesome things I never thought I'd see." Congratulations to The Muppets and a huge thanks to The Muppets Studio for bringing out Floyd in the spotlight again!

The Muppets Win!
The winners of the 2010 Webby Awards were announced today. I tried to act surprised when I saw that the Muppets had won in both the Music and Viral category for "Bohemian Rhapsody," and then I truly was surprised when I saw that they also swept the People's Voice awards in both categories as well--that's four awards! (Counting brought to you by the Count.)
Huge congratulations are in order to the people at The Muppets Studio for this huge win. The people have obviously spoken, and the people love the Muppets. I can only assume this will mean a rush of even more awesome Muppet stuff soon.
In celebration of the huge victory, let's watch "Bohemian Rhapsody" again, shall we?
In other Webby news, SesameStreet.org also won the Webby Award they were nominated for in the Parenting section. This is another very-much deserved award and the people at Sesame Workshop should be commended!
Congratulations to both The Muppets and Sesame Street on their Webby Awards!

In case you missed it a few days ago, the Muppets appeared on The Nerdist Podcast with Chris Hardwick. Hardwick interviewed our funny, furry friends about "Bohemian Rhapsody," their two Webby nominations, what they do on their off time, and more! Hardwick is obviously a huge Muppet fan, so getting to hear someone as excited as we would be interview the Muppets is a real treat. Also, it's nice to have an interview with the whole gang at once, not just a few.
The Muppets have been very busy lately, after their turn podcasting, they released a new video on their YouTube account. It features Kermit and the rest of the Muppets as they provide actual commentary on "Bohemian Rhapsody" as it plays. It's hilarious, classic Muppet humor and I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard. This is a can't miss Muppet video, so... don't miss it!
Huge Disney fan Jim Hill has posted an update about what the Muppets have been up to lately and delves a little bit into what they'll be up to in the near future. Not much of the information is news to us obsessed Muppet fans, but it's still an interesting read.
Our friends at ToughPigs have posted the winners (losers?) of the Ugly Muppet Toy Pageant 2010, complete with comments from the hilarious tough piggies themselves! The entries are both hilarious and disturbing... but luckily, it's mostly just hilarious.

Bohemian Rhapsody: The Muppets Comment Back
If you live under a rock (and I'm sure at least one of you does), and you've missed, or somehow ignored, my shilling for you (and everyone else) to vote for The Muppets in their two nominations for "Bohemian Rhapsody" in The Webby Awards, then maybe you'll listen to the Muppets!
Those hard working furry people have taken the time out of their (apparently) very busy schedules to comment directly on the Bohemian Rhapsody video as it plays. Yes, it is indeed as hilarious as it sounds:
So... once you get up off of the floor from laughing, head on over to The Webby Awards and cast your vote for the Muppets in both the Music and Viral categories. Remember, tomorrow (April 29th) is the last day to vote, so do it quick!

The Race for The Webbys Gets Sick! Erm... Viral, that is.
Have you heard? No, not that the Bird is the Word (Big Bird, of course), but that the greatest thing on the Internet ever, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by The Muppets, has been nominated for two Webby Awards? I'm sure you have, since I've been shilling votes for them for a week and a half now.
Anyway, The Muppets Studio has also received the news that they've been nominated, so in order to steal votes away from their competition, they've turned to the medium that garnered them the nomination in the first place: viral videos.
If you are still holding out your vote for The Muppets after that, I don't know what's wrong with you and I think you should get to a doctor, stat. C'mon, don't you want to make Animal's Mama proud? You probably should... because she might eat you if you don't.

NEWS UPDATE: April 15, 2010
Earlier this week, our friends from TVShowsonDVD.com have reported that Lionsgate is continuing its trend of releasing loads of rare Henson specials on DVD. The next release? 1989's "Sesame Street: 20 Years and Still Counting" special on July 6th. This is an extremely exciting release since this special has never been commercially released and... it's just an awesome special.
Yesterday, Greg over at The Muppet Newsflash tweeted two new pictures of the upcoming "Muppet Monopoly" and "Muppet Yahtzee" board games being released this August. At this point it is still not known if the Monopoly will be a straight re-release of 2002's Muppet version or if it is entirely new.
Have you heard of Google? Well, I hadn't until I heard that Sesame Street's 40th Anniversary was being promoted on their logos this past fall. (Kidding, of course.) The fine folks at Google have teamed up with the even more fine folks at Sesame Street once again to create some new, actual commercials for the search engine. Both Bert and Cookie Monster receive the commercial treatment, and they're both awesome. (Thanks to our friends at ToughPigs for picking up on this story!)
Speaking of ToughPigs, they've posted a great interview with Roger Langridge about adding Skeeter to the comic book world of the Muppets. It's incredibly insightful and I highly recommend checking it out!
And of course, the big news of the week is that The Muppets "Bohemian Rhapsody" has been nominated for two Webby Awards in the Music and Viral categories. If you haven't done so yet, get over there and vote! Thanks to us, the Muppets currently have a huge lead in the polls in both categories, so keep voting and keep it up!

Webby Wednesday: Vote for Bohemian Rhapsody!
EDIT: Bohemian Rhapsody has returned to The Webby Awards YouTube page for voting. Muppet fans, go forth and vote!!
It's that time of the year again: time for The Webby Awards to honor the best of entertainment on the internet. As I'm sure you all remember, last year Beaker's "Ode to Joy" viral sensation won a People's Choice Webby and Beaker even appeared to make an acceptance speech.
This year, to the surprise of almost no one, the Muppets biggest viral smash hit of all time, "Bohemian Rhapsody" has been nominated--and not just for a single Webby, but for two! That's right, Animal and his Mamma crooning along with the antics of all the rest of the Muppets in the video have garnered them nominations in both the Music and Viral categories. The competition in these categories is pretty stiff, such as "Auto-Tune the News," "David After Dentist," and "Lindsay Lohan's eHarmony Profile," but the Muppets had a pretty heavy early lead against them all (before they mysteriously disappeared from the ballot).
And, luckily, we Muppet fans can help them hold that lead! Yes, by simply visiting the Webby's YouTube channel and registering we can vote to propel our Muppets to two victories! On a slightly disappointing note, earlier today the Muppets Facebook page alerted us that "Bohemian Rhapsody" had somehow disappeared from the ballot of both categories. It has since been fixed, but in its time away the Muppets have slipped to second behind "David After Dentist." Obviously this cannot stand, so it's time once again for that great Muppet fan rallying we're all so good at.
Get over to the Webby's channel and register so you can vote, vote, vote!
And while you wait, why not vote for SesameStreet.org in its quest for a Webby?

Bohemian Rhapsody: An In-Depth Comparison
Good morning. The British Correspondent here, still making great use of Ryan's resources to my own nefarious ends. For example, yesterday after posting I made excellent use of his credit-card at the local H&M. These socks are REALLY comfy. Today, I'm posting from a Massage Parlour in London, where I expect the Intern to arrive any minute to work the knots out of my toes (hey, brand new socks can only do so much.)
LISA THE INTERN: ExCUSE me? I do NOT give foot rubs!
TBC: Excuse me! What, wait, you don't? I am sure I went over some very specific clauses in my contract with the Ryan before he left...
LISA: Oh no. If anything, there's a clause in my contract saying I DON'T do extravagant, servant-like things along the lines of giving foot rubs. Besides, your feet smell.
TBC: Don't be ridiculous. My nose smells, my feet run. Okay, sometimes my nose runs as well, but that's another story.) But anyway, if you don't give foot-rubs or Polatis lessons, what DO you do around this place? (Clearly not IT...seeing as our last blog post basically exploded. See below!)
LISA: I proof-read, occasionally contribute articles, and usually get ignored because Ryan thinks it's too late in the day to make the corrections I suggest, or that it's too small of a correction to care about. For the record, I sincerely apologize to any grammarians who read the blog for all the excessive comma splices.
TBC: So...you do provide excessive cosmic spices...Lisa, can you read my fortune?
LISA: ... Oh dear goodness. You're even worse than Ryan is. At least he has a vague idea of what a comma splice IS now... You wanna know your future, BC? You're gonna be in several tons of trouble when Ryan gets back and sees what you've done to his blog, not to mention what you did to the Muppet-merchandise-shrine he calls a bedroom. He still hasn't stopped talking about the LAST time his Bunsen figure's glasses broke.
TBC: Ryan! Oh...that reminds me...He sent a photo update. And...Oh! Sorry, I have to run, I just realised I came to a waxing parlour not a massage place! GAH!
LISA: Um--except that this IS a massage place ... and he's already gone. Can you imagine? He just ran out on his obligation to update the blog. He even left the picture behind. Lousy Brit. Well, I was SUPPOSED to have the week off, but with Ryan in Disney and TBC running for the hills, I guess there's no one else around to take care of this blog. Lucky for you, I happen to have an extra article lying around somewhere ... so here's the picture from Ryan, and now let me see if I can find that article. Ah-ha! Here it is.
Bohemian Rhapsody: An In-Depth Comparison (Or, A Very Complicated Venn Diagram in the Form of Words)
Lisa Alexander - Are you sick of “Bohemian Rhapsody” yet?
Of course not. I don’t think it’s physically possible. I mean, the song is epic. The music video the Muppets put out of it is also epic. And if you haven’t heard of that yet, you obviously live under a rock. Or you’re not really a Muppet fan. Or both. … Probably both.
For those of you who aren’t really Muppet fans and live under rocks, or who just have really bad short-term memories, the Muppets took YouTube by storm last November with a viral music video of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which hit ten million views in its first two weeks on the web.
But this isn’t the first time the Muppets have performed “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Oh no. Johnny and Sal did it about four years prior on the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. But that performance has been half-forgotten at best, while the new one has been hailed as the best Muppet production since Jim Henson/since The Muppet Movie/since [insert Muppet high point here] /ever. So what’s the difference? Well, this is why they taught us about Venn diagrams back in grade school. I made one just for this article. See?
…Well. … Let’s just pretend that was helpful, shall we? Moving right along. (Wait … that’s the wrong song.)
2005 TELETHON
If you missed our three-part interview with Bill Barretta a little while back, you might’ve forgotten this ever happened, especially since you were probably asleep when it aired at two o’clock in the morning. (Or would it be considered two o’clock at night?)
So for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about (and are too lazy to click on that conveniently embedded video right there), let me give you a brief plot synopsis. (Yes, it has a plot.) Johnny’s ma apparently wanted to give Jerry Lewis some marinara sauce, but it wasn’t done yet when Johnny and Sal left for the telethon, so she sent it FedEx. Sal also brought along Ma’s favorite broom for Jerry Lewis to sign. The monkey starts to carry the pot of sauce and the broom across the stage to put in Tom Bergeron’s dressing room so Tom can give them to Jerry. Unfortunately, Sal drops the sauce and the broom. Cue “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with the words changed so that it is now a heartfelt apology from Johnny and Sal to Ma. Who saw it? Anyone who was awake at two in the morning watching the 2005 Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. Who worked on it? Well, we know that Brian Henson and Bill Barretta pre-recorded it, and then performed at 2 AM for the telethon. Beyond that, I have no idea. How do we know it existed? Easy. It’s on Muppet Wiki, it’s on YouTube, Bill Barretta talked about it in his interview, and I have an audio recording of it on my computer. (I have no idea how it got there, but it’s there.)
2009 VIRAL
You guys know about this one, right?
Some folks over at Muppets Studio decided they wanted to do “Bohemian Rhapsody” for YouTube. They got in touch with Queen, who handed over not only the rights but also the original music tracks, so that’s actually Queen you hear playing while the Muppets do their stuff. Then, in one day, the Muppets recorded a brilliant piece of magic. Then it hit YouTube and racked up over 10,000,000 views in less than two weeks. Audio and video of the single were both released for sale on iTunes and such, and it did pretty darn well.
The video is almost a shot-for-shot replica of Queen’s video, except with Muppets. Of course, there was some alteration. The Muppets never just repeat someone else’s work; they make it their own. So instead of having a line about Beelzebub (which was included in Johnny and Sal’s rendition), they have some cacti, flowers, bunnies, prairie dogs, and monkeys ask if there’s a part for them. Instead of having just killed a man, Animal spends the entire first verse calling for his mama … and, eventually, his dada (not to be confused with data). And instead of Dr. Teeth complaining about spit in his eye, he tells us this video’s going to fly. (Excellent prediction, Dr. Teeth. Now what are my stocks going to do? … Oh wait. I don’t have stocks. Alright, how about my tax return, then?)
However, the biggest difference between the Muppets’ video and Queen’s video (aside from the much larger, all-felt cast in the viral) comes at the end, where Queen’s video, well, ends, but the viral turns out to be a huge video conference—and apparently a very unproductive one at that, which puts quite a damper on Kermit’s amazement at this incredibly coordinated feat of improvisation.
Someone on YouTube was nice enough to create a side-by-side comparison of Queen’s video and the Muppets’ viral. It only has two drawbacks: the Galileo part makes you dizzy, and they cut part of the Queen video so it could keep up with the Muppets. I did find a side-by-side comparison that left that part in, but the Muppets were barely audible. This is a much better blending of the audio, and the two recordings actually harmonize at some points. Neat, huh?
Now if only I knew how to do that with both of the Muppet performances, this article would be way easier. … Actually, I’m not sure it would need to exist.
THE COMPARISON
Let’s start with the obvious common ground: Both renditions were performed by the Muppets, both started out as the same song, and both have the same title, which makes it really interesting to try to write a side-by-side comparison.
They are also both shorter than the original. The 2005 telethon appearance chopped considerably more of the song, cutting almost six minutes of music down to about three and a half. The viral is a lot closer at 4:46, although the song actually stops at 4:38. The only cut here is that Animal only shouts for his mama for one verse, while the just-killed-a-man business lasts for two and is followed by an amazing guitar solo.
As far as I can tell, their only other similarities are that they can both be found on YouTube and they both have Johnny and Sal. Those aren’t terribly strong similarities when you consider that one is exclusively Johnny and Sal, while the other only has one shot of Johnny and two of Sal, and that you can find just about anything you want on YouTube.
So now we move on to the differences. How is it that Muppets + “Bohemian Rhapsody” = half-forgotten appearance when Muppets + “Bohemian Rhapsody” = internet sensation? Math isn’t my forte, but even I know something doesn’t add up there. So what’s the difference?
Maybe it’s as simple as the number of Muppets. Maybe Muppets + “Bohemian Rhapsody” = half-forgotten appearance, and Muppets50 + “Bohemian Rhapsody” = internet sensation.
But I don’t think it’s quite that simple. By my count, the viral has sixty-nine Muppets—seventy-one with Lew Zealand’s fish. (I may be an English major, but I can still count; thank you, Sesame Street.) Assuming I still know how to do long division, that comes to about 194,594 views per Muppet. Two Muppets should get twice that, right? But Johnny and Sal, uploaded to YouTube exactly a week before the viral, have just under 27,000. Huh.
Then again, I seem to recall Beaker’s “Ode to Joy” hitting 1,000,000 views pretty quickly, and he’s just one Muppet. Yes, he was on the screen six times over … but still. Maybe some Muppets bring in more views than others, but I still say that the number of Muppets is not the whole deal.
There’s also the exposure issue to consider; 2 AM isn’t exactly the internet … unless you’re online at 2 AM, but then you’re online with everyone on the other side of the globe. See, everything on the internet is always there for anyone and everyone with internet access, with everyone linking everyone else to anything and everything. TV at 2 AM is there for people with insomnia, people who work night shifts and have the day (night?) off, and geniuses like me who stay up way later than they reasonably should. Chances are, most of those people get stuck watching infomercials for Kaboom.
Then there’s this thing called “quality.” The viral is swimming in it. The telethon … tries. I don’t really know why the funny choreography in the telethon reeks of parody to me when the viral is almost a shot-for-shot duplicate of Queen’s video. Something about that doesn’t seem quite right, does it? But that’s the honest truth, so here’s my best guess of an explanation:
The viral was thoroughly planned. They somehow shot the whole thing in one day, but you know it was a lot more than one day in the making. They got quite a nice boost from Queen with the recordings, and the all-black background is a lovely old trick to hide arm-rods and Muppeteers. (Granted, these days the Mouse likes the Muppets to edit out as many arm-rods as possible anyway.) Throw in a little high-def video quality, and this is suddenly incredibly enjoyable to watch and listen to.
I’m not saying the telethon appearance wasn’t thoroughly planned. I’m just saying it didn’t have quite the backing the viral got. Namely, it didn’t have any backing from Queen, nor did it have a convenient all-black background. If you look closely, you can see some Muppeteer hair poking up, starting right around the 2:38 mark on the video. At the three-minute mark, you can even see a forehead! (Please note: That exclamation point is not outrage. It’s excitement. Does that make me weird? … Don’t answer that.)There’s also the aspect of purpose. The viral? That’s all about us. Yeah, that’s for the fans, and that’s to bring in more fans. That’s about building up a super-strong fan base for that day we all dream of when the Muppets hit the big screen. The 2 AM telethon appearance was about waking people up to donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. And you know what? I bet it worked. So yes, the little “call now” bar at the bottom can block the performance, but that was the real focal point.
So, the Muppets have performed “Bohemian Rhapsody” twice. One performance briefly beat out New Moon as a topic on Twitter, and the other happened before Twitter even existed. On YouTube, one has upwards of 13,000,000 views, and the other is just shy of 27,000, but both of them are rated with five stars. One may be more popular than the other, but the bottom line—to quote more than one YouTube comments, I’m sure—is that Muppets + “Bohemian Rhapsody” = win.

4.) It's awesome.3.) Singing bunnies, monsters, prairie dogs, penguins, flowers, bananas, cacti, chickens, and rats. (Not necessarily in that order.)
2.) If we don't buy it, how will the Muppets be able to pay their electric bills? (C'mon, don't you think the Electric Mayhem uses up a lot of power?)
1.) Because you're a Muppet fan. What better reason than that do you need?
Now go forth, buy the song, make it ROCK the airwaves! And now you have twenty reasons to do so!

The first iPhone Application from The Muppets Studio is now available! "Animal Drummer" lets you drum along with Angus McGonagle as you--wait, sorry, you drum along with Animal on your iPhone. I don't really know what else you do beyond that, but it looks pretty darn cool!
According to Muppets Studio's Twitter feed, Miss Piggy will be appearing on The Wendy Williams Show which airs in syndication and on BET. If you can't find it on your local listings, it appears that the episode will be online afterwards. Be sure to keep an eye out for Miss Piggy in this exciting appearance!
For some reason, it appears that Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody has been removed from YouTube due to "copyright violations" from a record company in Scandanavia. This may be one of the oddest things that has ever happened, so hopefully Disney and Muppets Studio can amend this problem and bring us our Muppets back!
Speaking off Bohemian Rhapsody, the song and video are now available for download almost everywhere. It was released internationally on Sunday on iTunes and Amazon.com and is quickly climbing the charts. It was released in the US yesterday for $0.99 on Amazon and it should be available on iTunes sometime today. As always, we'll keep you updated.
Make sure to buy your copy of Bohemian Rhapsody to support this great Muppet undertaking! If you are in the UK, help propel it to Christmas #1!

The first iPhone Application from The Muppets Studio is now available! "Animal Drummer" lets you drum along with Angus McGonagle as you--wait, sorry, you drum along with Animal on your iPhone. I don't really know what else you do beyond that, but it looks pretty darn cool!According to Muppets Studio's Twitter feed, Miss Piggy will be appearing on The Wendy Williams Show which airs in syndication and on BET. If you can't find it on your local listings, it appears that the episode will be online afterwards. Be sure to keep an eye out for Miss Piggy in this exciting appearance!

Ringin' Those Bells
Those wonderful folks over at The Muppets Studio have really been hard at work this December to bring us Muppet fans tons of Muppety goodness. First, of course, there was "Bohemian Rhapsody," then Kermit and the gang appeared with Andrea Bocelli (numerous times), and then at Rockefeller Center. Well, they're still hitting the world hard with a brand new video debuting on YouTube yesterday. Check it out for yourself!
How awesome was that, eh? Feels exactly like a sketch from The Muppet Show. What more could you want?
While we're on the subject of incredible Muppet videos... Did you know that the smash-hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" has finally surpassed 10,000,000 views? Well, it has! In fact, at time of posting, the video had 10,025,024 views. Now, if all of those people would be so kind as to purchase the song when it's released as a single this Monday, we'll be golden!
Congratulations to everyone at The Muppets Studio for their incredible work this holiday season! The Muppets are truly back in the spotlight.
Now... Let's watch "Bohemian Rhapsody" again, shall we?

NEWS UPDATE: December 10, 2009
"I Believe," Kermit's duet with Disney star Tiffany Thornton, is now available for digital download via Amazon and iTunes. It'll only cost you $0.99, and it's a pretty good song, so why not?
A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa is available for viewing on Hulu through December 20th. So if you haven't seen the special and don't feel like watching it on NBC or buying the DVD, now's your chance to watch it for the next ten days!
Also on Hulu is Andrea Bocelli's performance with the Muppets from Monday's The Jay Leno Show. (Spoiler alert: They sang "Jingle Bells" again.) Watch as Jay snubs Miss Piggy and makes a bad swine flu joke!
Last Thursday, Kermit and Miss Piggy appeared on NBC's Today and were absolutely fantastic. Here are the two clips of the frog and the pig doing what they do best--being themselves!
The wonderful people at Sesame Street have launched their first eBook website where children and parents can read books online. This wouldn't be incredibly spectacular for adult Muppet fans, except that you can have The Monster at the End of This Book read to you by the one and only Grover! Awesome? Sha. Times, like, twelve.
Our good friends at ToughPigs debuted a brand spanking new website (no actual spanking involved) on Sunday to much love and gusto (at least from me). The new layout and design is absolutely spectacular and we send all of our congratulations to Ryan, Joe, and the rest of the ToughPigs gang!
Speaking of those sturdy swine, you absolutely MUST check out their interview with the always amazing, ever incredible, Jerry Nelson. I can put it no better than ToughPigs did... if puppetry was music, Jerry would be a Beatle. Go check it out!
And last, but certainly not least, according to Queen Online, the official website for all things Queen music, the Muppets extremely successful version of the Queen classic "Bohemian Rhapsody" (as if you don't know what I'm talking about) will be released for digital download and be a competitor in the highly sought-after position of Christmas #1 in the UK. The release date is still TBC, but some sources have reported that it will be Monday, December 14th. As always, as soon as I know, I will let you know!
Queen Online is also reporting that the Disney Channel will play "Bohemian Rhapsody" numerous times throughout December. I'm not sure if this is US or UK Disney Channel, so be sure to tune in one of the times listed to find out!
In support of The Muppets tackling the huge Christmas #1 ranking, I made some campaign posters for them that I'm more than happy to share. Use these on your blogs, Facebooks, wherever--but whatever you do with them, let's make sure that we propel the Muppets to #1!
Be sure to check back here at The Muppet Mindset for more information on when "Bohemian Rhapsody" will be released!

NEWS UPDATE: December 1st
NEWS UPDATE: December 1st, 2009
Via both their Facebook and Twitter accounts, Muppets Studio is reporting that The Electric Mayhem (yes, that Electric Mayhem), Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Rizzo, and Pepe will all be appearing on NBC's "Christmas at Rockefeller Center" Wednesday, December 2nd (TOMORROW) at 8/7c. Be sure to catch this extremely exciting appearance--including the glorious return of The Electric Mayhem to your TV set!
Muppets Studio has also reported that Kermit and Miss Piggy will be appearing on NBC's "Today" on Thursday, December 3rd. Your TiVo is sure to get a work-out these next few weeks!
The Muppets (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Pepe, Animal, and some penguins) appeared alongside opera great Andrea Bocelli on PBS's "Great Performances" television program starring David Foster and Bocelli. They performed a rendition of the holiday classic "Jingle Bells" (which is also available on Bocelli's new Christmas album "My Christmas"). If you missed the appearance on "Great Performances," the good folks at Muppet Wiki have uploaded the whole performance on YouTube. And, if you feel like "Bohemian Rhapsody" has filled your YouTube quota, the Muppets and Mr. Bocelli will be performing the song once more on NBC's "The Jay Leno Show" next Monday, December 7th at 11:00pm/10:00pm central time.
Did you catch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? Or did you, like me, have to record it on your TiVo to watch it after you had stuffed your face, only to find that it cut off recording just before Kermit's performance of "I Believe" with Disney Channel pop person Tiffany Thorton? Well, lucky for you, the "I Believe" is being released as a music video (this Friday on Disney Channel) and a single. The song premiered on Radio Disney today and the music video debuted on Radio Disney's website as well. "I Believe" will be available for digital download on December 8th.
Back in September when the D23 convention rocked the Muppet world, Muppets Studio announced a new album of Muppet music covered by some of the biggest names in music today. That album is entitled Muppets: Revisited and, according to The Muppet Newsflash's Twitter account, it will be released on February 10, 2010.
The fine (well... actually, no comment) folks at People Magazine have released some photo lists of what they consider the best of the best of 2009. And, would you believe it, they awarded The Muppets "Comeback of the Year." There are some really fun pictures and comments from the People people, so be sure to check this out. On another note, it shows once and for all that the world truly does love and realize the Muppets are pushing their way back.
Remember A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa? Of course you do! Whoopi Goldberg's cameo was classic! Well, NBC remembers it too and they are re-airing a whopping three times this holiday season. On (this Friday) December 4th, December 8th, and December 19th. Be sure to check it out! (Or, you know, just buy the DVD. Whatever jingles your bells.)
Today, the United States Postal Service has announced that this year "A postmark of Kermit the Frog will appear in the upper right-hand corner of holiday cards and letters mailed throughout the month of December." So... if you ever needed a reason to mail a letter in the month of December, this is it!
Disney fanatic Jim Hill has been prominent in the Disney fan community for years. He has also been an ardent supporter of The Muppets for awhile now, and has truly shown his fandom with his post on his website today. If you don't feel like sifting through all of it (though, you really should), here are some of the highlights:
And, finally, if you enjoyed The Muppets version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (who didn't?), there is an official Facebook group campaigning to release the song as a single online. I would really like to see this group grow to prominence and lead to the official release of "Bohemian Rhapsody" via iTunes or some other retailer. So, please, if you have a Facebook take two seconds out of your day and click the little Join button. You'll be benefiting yourself in the long run!

Bohemian Rhapsody - The Response
As you all know by now, The Muppets have celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with a brand new, epically awesome YouTube video covering Queen's hit song "Bohemian Rhapsody." According to some sources, over 75 Muppet characters appear in the video. Oh, why am I telling you? Just watch it again!
As you can tell, the video is most awesome. It has garnered tons of attention from blogs and was even featured on G4 TV's Attack of the Show television show. Currently, the video has 4,719,037 views, 27,809 ratings, and 8,106 comments on YouTube. Naturally, some of these comments are just awesome, so I thought it would be fun to feature a few of the comments on the blog. Keep in mind... most of these are NOT obsessed Muppet fans like you and I. Enjoy!

NEWS UPDATE: November 25, 2009
Today's News Update is all about The Muppets (go figure). In case you were somehow indisposed yesterday and unable to get to a computer and missed the undeniable return of the Muppets to the spotlight, be sure to watch The Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody in glorious HD on YouTube now! You too can be one of the nearly 1,000,000 viewers of the incredible video.
Did you enjoy the songs from A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa? Do you wish you could be Santa Claus just like Gonzo and Fozzie? Well then Amazon.com and iTunes are where you need to frolic! Both are offering the soundtrack for Letters to Santa at the incredibly low prices of $2.71 and $2.99 respectively. The audio tracks are all clear and wonderful, so I highly recommend checking this out!
Do you have a Twitter? Do you like The Muppets? Then you had better be following MuppetsStudio official page on Twitter! (Hey, they're following me, I had to plug it!) Be sure to check out their official YouTube channel to see all of the Muppet viral videos in HD!
Be sure to remember to check out the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade tomorrow (Thursday, November 26) on NBC. There are tons of Muppet sightings to watch out for. Sesame Street will be there in full force with the 123 Sesame Street float and the Sesame Street gang performing a medley of "What Makes Music" and "Sing," along with an Abby Cadabby balloon.
Also at the parade, Kermit will be singing his hit from last year's parade, "I Believe," with Disney Channel "star" Tiffany Thornton. After the parade, Disney Channel will debut a music video of the duet (Dec. 4th) and release the single on iTunes for purchasing (Dec. 8th). The Muppet Newsflash has all the info (and pictures)!
Remember the unruly rant Sesame Street took against FOX News? Well, then you surely remember all of the unnecessary media backlash (covered brilliantly by ToughPigs), right? Well, lucky for us, Sesame Street finally stood up for themselves on FOX News' "The O'Reilly Factor" with Bill O'Reilly. Sherrie Westin, who does something at Sesame Street, appeared on the show with a new Grouch anchor, Spill O'Reilly, to debunk the rumors and the backlash. I'm proud of Sesame Street for standing up for their parodies the only way they know how--with more parodies!
