120 Awesome Muppet Songs, Part 5

Ryan Dosier - 60 songs in, and I'm still loving doing these installments every Tuesday. I hope you're still loving it too, Muppet fans. If you need to play catch up, don't miss out on Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 of our 120 Awesome Muppet Songs series. Tune up the instruments and get ready to jam!

61.   "When the River Meets the Sea" from Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas
How have we never noticed that Paul Williams writes the most beautiful, profound, and perfect Muppet songs? What's that? We have? Oh, good. Well anyway... the greatest song from Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas is one of the greatest Muppet songs ever. It is poignant, it is powerful, and it is the perfect song for Jerry Nelson. Jerry performed the song as Emmet Otter, Robin the Frog, and himself with Louise Gold at Jim Henson's Memorial Service, adding to the beauty of the song. Thank you Jerry, and thank you Paul Williams, for this perfect piece of music. Favorite lyrics: "Though our minds be filled with questions/In our hearts, we'll understand/When the river meets the sea."
62.   "Steppin' Out With a Star" from The Great Muppet Caper
One of the few songs to feature the awesome trio of Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo, "Steppin' Out With a Star" is the most fun anyone ever had getting ready for a date with a pig. I love the interplay between the three guys in this song. I adore Kermit when he is peppy and fun and dancing in a tuxedo (okay, sure, I love Kermit all the time, but still). It's such a great moment in The Great Muppet Caper that lets us escape from the caper plot with a bouncy number. It's fantastic. Favorite lyrics: "Have I got style?/Have I got taste?/On someone else/I swear, this savoir faire/Would be such a waste!"
63.   "Couldn't We Ride" from The Great Muppet Caper
Another song from The Great Muppet Caper! Gotta love that iTunes shuffle. Thank goodness it's another brilliant, beautiful number. (Aren't they all?) One of the most technically amazing feats in Muppet history... I honestly still have no idea how some of the bike stunts were done--and I don't want to know. It is a true example of pure Muppet magic. Kermit standing on one leg on his bike is a moment I'll always see as perfectly Jim Henson. The song features some wonderful imagery and beautiful music. It never fails to make me want to go ride a bike. Favorite lyrics: "It all seems so right/It all feels so rare/Summer soft, sudden breeze/Watch the wind play tag in the trees/The world is so bright/So perfectly fair."
64.   "Easy is the Only Way to Go" from Fraggle Rock
Perhaps an obscure choice, but I adore this song. This is one of the few songs on this list that is performed by a one-off character, Phil Fraggle, who was voiced by Fraggle Rock songwriter Phil Balsam. In the show, the song comes after the Fraggles make Mokey their new oracle so they don't have to risk visiting the Trash Heap. The song features a magnificent guitar instrumental that pairs perfectly with Balsam's vocals. It's rollicking and joyful and makes for a great anthem anytime good things happen. It may be repetitive, but it's repeating great lyrics. Favorite lyrics: "We found a way/To live on easy street/No more troubles/No more cares and woe/Oh happy day/It's made our lives complete/'Cause easy is the only way to go."
65.   "It Feels Like Christmas" from The Muppet Christmas Carol
How can you not positively adore this song? Jerry Nelson and the Ghost of Christmas Present make this a truly show-stopping, major production number for The Muppet Christmas Carol when it definitely needed one. This song is a stand-out in an otherwise somber film, that celebrates the joy of the Christmas season with amazing music and lyrics. I have no idea why this isn't a timeless classic on the radio every Christmas season... it's a crying shame. Thank goodness we Muppet fans know it and love it all year round. Favorite lyrics: "It is the season of the heart/A special time of caring/The ways of love made clear/And it is, this season of the spirit/The message if we hear it/Is make it last all year!"
66.   "Doin' the Pigeon" from Sesame Street
Oh, Bert. The nerdiest of the nerds, the dweebiest of the dweebs. Bert so weird but so reserved and delightfully boring. Who else would develop an entire song and dance around the way pigeons move? Thank goodness he did, though, because "Doin' the Pigeon" is the defining song for Bert--his "Rubber Duckie," if you will. I believe this song says everything you need to know about Bert as a character: he's passionate about odd things and he's one "coo" cat. (Get it?!) Favorite lyrics: "Every time I feel alone and slightly blue/That's when I begin to think it's what I'd like to start to do/So though it may not be the kind of thing that's quite your cup of tea/I recommend you pay attention to the little dance you're gonna see."
67.   "Eye to Eye" from Fraggle Rock
So far this is the only song on the list that wasn't available in some fashion on YouTube. So if you have Fraggle Rock Season 3 on DVD, pop in "The Cavern of Lost Dreams" to hear this great song. Led by Cotterpin Doozer with back up from ancient Doozers Yeaster and Crusty, it's one of my favorite Doozer songs. The trio sing about how coming together and connecting makes things so much better. It is a great message that should be adopted all over. Favorite lyrics: "I felt so helpless, yes, I felt so blue/I never dreamed that I'd see eye to eye with you/But hallelujah, we've made the whole thing new/I'm gonna see eye to eye to eye with you."
68.   "Happy Feet" from The Muppet Show
Besides "Rainbow Connection," this is probably my favorite Kermit song. He is just so happy when he's singing "Happy Feet" (fitting, I know). The idea behind this sketch on The Muppet Show, that we never see Kermit's feet, is brilliant, but it's Jim Henson's vocal performance that really stands out here. I love seeing Kermit cut loose and have fun performing--which he was born to do. "Happy Feet" is one of the best examples of that. Favorite lyrics: "Weary blues can't get into my shoes/Because my shoes refuse/To ever grow weary/I keep cheerful on an earful of music sweet/'Cause I've got hap-hap-happy feet!"
69.   "Bless Us All" from The Muppet Christmas Carol
Boy, Paul Williams is all over this week's list. Thank goodness, because he rocks, of course. "Bless Us All" might just be Paul's most beautiful song. Coming at a time when the world had just lost Jim Henson and Richard Hunt, this beautiful and thankful song is really powerful. This song is another great vehicle for Robin, who never sounded better. Jerry Nelson gets to harmonize here with Steve Whitmire and Frank Oz, and it's truly wonderful. It's touching, it's uplifting, and it's magic. Favorite lyrics: "Life is full of sweet surprises/Everyday's a gift/The sun comes up/And I can feel it lift my spirit/Fills me up with laughter/Fills me up with song/I look into the eyes of love/And know that I belong."
70.   "Bohemian Rhapsody" from YouTube
One of my favorite Muppet moments ever is this truly amazing 2009 video parodying the Queen classic starring... everyone. Opening with Gonzo and the chickens, then Animal, the song spotlights nearly every single major, secondary, and minor Muppet character. There are so many moments that make this song so great, but my favorite is when the Electric Mayhem comes in and brings down the house. It was a triumphant return for my favorite band. Also of note: silhouetted Pepe, Big Mean Carl eating Rizzo, Mahna Mahna, Lew Zealand, and literally every moment of this video. Favorite lyrics: "So they told us this video was going to fly/All I know is we're not getting paid tonight/Oh, baby, can't do this to me baby/Just gotta get out/Just gotta get right outta here!"

71.   "Love Led Us Here" from Muppet Treasure Island
You know what's amazing? How few Kermit and Miss Piggy duets there are. Yes, there's "The First Time It Happens," but there really aren't many others. Thankfully, there's "Love Led Us Here," the beautiful romantic duet from Muppet Treasure Island. It's crazy that Kermit and Piggy performed this song entirely upside down. But really... Steve Whitmire very much hit his stride as Kermit by this point and the blending of Kermit and Piggy's voices is perfect here. Thank goodness they have this great duet that spells out their love since there are so few out there. Favorite lyrics: "Was I dumb?/Or was I blind?/Or did my heart just lose its mind?/Why'd I go and throw/Our perfect dream away?"
72.   "Friendship Song" from Fraggle Rock
It seems like every time someone talks about Fraggle Rock and notable episodes of the show, "Marooned" always comes up. It absolutely should, because "Marooned" is the pinnacle of the show's power to connect emotionally to the viewers. By pitting Red and Boober in such a dire situation, we also got the beautiful "Friendship Song." This wonderful duet between the two polar-opposite Fraggles warms the heart completely. It's soft and lilting and completely beautiful. The definition of a tear jerker should be this song. Favorite lyrics: "You work all night/You work all day/You still can't keep/Those worried blues away/Try a little longer/For your friends/Try a little stronger/For your friends."
73.   "Pukka, Pukka, Pukka Sqeetily Boink" from Fraggle Rock
Yay! More Fraggles! And it's a song by my favorite Fraggle! Wembley can do no wrong in my eyes, and his nonsense song is no exception. It's so delightfully goofy and abstract. The song also showcases Steve Whitmire's weird, wonderful noises he squeaks and squawks as Wembley. Steve is such a great singer on deep, powerful songs, but I just love moments like this when he gets to be goofy and wacky. Favorite lyrics: "I believe in magic words/I believe in love/I believe in buried treasure falling from above/One more time the world goes round/One more magic day/Now I've learned the magic sounds/That speed it on its way!"
74.   "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" from The Muppet Movie
I'm going to be honest right up front here... this is my favorite song of all time. Not just Muppet song... song, period. The hauntingly beautiful lyrics, the emotionally gripping music, Gonzo's soul-searching movements and emotions... every single thing about this song is perfect. Paul Williams has scribed so many masterpieces for the Muppets (four of them in this week's list alone), but I don't think I could ever love a song more. Gonzo's words speak to me, and I'm sure they speak to all Muppet fans. Favorite lyrics: "There's not a word yet/For old friends who've just met/Part heaven, part space/Or have I found my place?/You can just visit, but I plan to stay/I'm going to go back there someday."
75.   "Turn the World Around" from The Muppet Show
The perfect closing number for The Muppet Show becomes the perfect closing number for the list this week. Harry Belafonte was one of the Muppets' great collaborators and a good friend of Jim Henson, and this song he scribed specifically for the show is truly amazing. Harry sings so powerfully and the African mask puppets built for the song are incredible. I love the message of this song, showing how the world is all connected. Favorite lyrics: "Do you know who I am?/Do I know who you are?/See we one another clearly/Do we know who we are?"

News Update: March 8, 2013

NEWS UPDATE: March 8, 2013
Late Tuesday night news came out that Disney would be using its expert cross-promotional techniques on the Muppets once again. Access Hollywood reported that the Muppets will apepar on Disney Channel's hit show Good Luck Charlie on April 28th. According to the official synopsis for the episode, "The Duncan Family decides to build their dream house after the family home is devastated by termites. Everyone, with the exception of Charlie (played by Mia Talerico), is excited at the prospect of a new and larger home. However, Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) has a change of heart after a dream in which Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal convince her that the old family home is really the house of her dreams." It sounds like it could be a fun appearance for Kermit and the gang.

While on the set of Good Luck Charlie, Access Hollywood talked to Miss Piggy about her appearance on the show and filming The Muppets... Again. The interview is fantastic and Eric Jacobson continues to be perfect as Piggy. My favorite part of the interview comes when Piggy refers to Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey as "background actors." Spectacular. Watch the video below!

Our good friends over at ToughPigs.com have all the news on the kids' portion of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Why do we care? Because Sesame Street is going to play a big part in the festival this year. Head over to ToughPigs for the entire Sesame-related schedule, which includes panels featuring Maria and Murray Monster and their friends/same people Sonia Manzano and Joey Mazzarino, which are sure to be exciting. So if you're headed to TIFF, be sure to check them out! If not, be sure to check out the great video with Murray and Maria below!

It's been awhile since Fraggle Rock saw a DVD release, but the fine folks over at TVShowsonDVD.com have some great news for those who missed out on the series on DVD the first time around. Series sets will be released on DVD periodically throughout the year (Season 1 on March 12; Season 2 on April 16; Season 3 on May 14; and Season 4--tentaively--on June 18). Perhaps most exciting is the 30th Anniversary Collection, also released on May 14th, which comes with all four seasons on DVD, a Red Fraggle plush keychain, the complete Animated Series, and a new Fraggle graphic novel. The cost is reasonable for two complete series, and the new box art is pretty great (see right). No word if new bonus features will be included... but the world can hope.

In other odd Fraggle news, the Jim Henson Company seems to be bringing their long in development children's TV series, Doozers, to television. An official video preview for the show was released on YouTube by our friends at Muppet Newsflash. I'm not sure how I feel about the video... it seems pretty confusing so far, but hopefully it will be much less confusing when it finally airs sometime in 2013. Enjoy the video below!

Finally, in hugely exciting and momentous (for many reasons) news: Sesame Street's YouTube Channel yesterday became the first ever non-profit organization to reach over 1 billion views! They promised to celebrate with a top-secret video, which they released yesterday. It stars Count von Count, performed for the first time since Jerry Nelson passed away. The Count is performed here by the amazing Matt Vogel, who does a nearly flawless job. The characterization, movement, and excitement is perfect. The voice is nearly uncanny. There are moments where Matt emulates Jerry's voice so perfectly, he could fool anyone. I am so thrilled and proud of Matt for this video and for taking over Count von Count. No one could do better. Watch the wonderful video below!

120 Awesome Muppet Songs, Part 3

Ryan Dosier - Our countdown of 120 Awesome Muppet Songs, presented in completely random order, continues today! Be sure to check out the first 30 songs on Part 1 and Part 2 before jumping in to the 15 we've got for you today. Remember, the song order was chosen by iTunes shuffling, which explains why there are three Fraggle Rock songs in a row (not that there's anything wrong with that). Tune up and get down!

31.   "Merry Christmas, Baby" from The Muppets: A Green and Red Christmas
Oh goodness I adore this little number. Bill Barretta and Pepe have never been in better voice than they are in this classic, rocking Christmas tune. Pepe is clearly in yuletide heaven as he sings with a backup chorus of girls. This song is so perfect and fitting for everyone's favorite King Prawn. It's a crying shame that Pepe doesn't get to sing more, because when he does, he absolutely kills it. Favorite lyrics: "Santa came down the chimney, half past three/With lots'a little presents for my babies and me!"

32.   "Fun is Here to Stay" from Fraggle Rock
Brace yourselves, we've got four songs from Fraggle Rock in Part 3. Blame the shuffling iTunes! Anyway, "Fun is Here to Stay" is both an exceptionally accurate title for the song and a magnificent motto for Fraggle Rock as a whole. Led by Boober's alter-ego Sidebottom as he manipulates Junior Gorg into thinking he's a Fraggle, the four other Fraggles join in as well. It's rollicking and joyful and uplifting and great. Favorite lyrics: "Fraggles come for fun from near and far/Fraggles know that fun is what they are!/No one could be dumb enough to say/Fun could come in any other way/Any Fraggle's brave enough to say--Fun is here to stay!"

33.   "Petals of the Rose" from Fraggle Rock
This song is so incredibly beautiful. With this song alone, Jerry Nelson shows unequivocally that he is the greatest singer the Muppets ever had. Gobo's heart-wrenching lyrics and the melodic ups and downs of his voice are just pure perfection. This is the song that made me cry the first time I listened to it after Jerry passed away last year. It's so fitting and it will break your heart every single time. I still tear up listening to it. I probably always will. Favorite lyrics: "Ain't it just the way it seems/We pull the petals off our dreams/Our hearts can say we're here to stay/But we always say goodbye/We always say goodbye..."

34.   "Wemblin' Fool" from Fraggle Rock
(Please ignore the odd YouTube video.) Another one of Gobo's best songs also happens to be one of Wembley's best too. This is a personal favorite--maybe in my top ten Muppet songs--and it was one of Jim Henson's as well. Jerry Nelson and Steve Whitmire sang this song at Jim's public memorial. The song is bouncy and lively and fun as heck. Wembley's trademark grunts are fantastic, Gobo's scatting is great, and the entire song plays perfectly every time you listen to it. Favorite lyrics: "When we're wemblin' south/We stick our feet in our mouth/And we just wemble, wemble, wemble as we ride!"

35.   "Sing After Me" from Sesame Street
If there is a more hysterical Grover sketch out there, someone please let me know. My favorite blue monster's antics and banter with Madeline Kahn in this song are top notch. Frank Oz was truly at the apex of his powers here, even cracking up a seasoned pro like Kahn. But Madeline was no straight-woman, she gives it back to Grover just as much and just as hilariously. The lyrics are sort of nonsense, but the performance makes it a true classic. My favorite lyrics actually aren't lyrics, they're just a line spoken near the end by Grover, who says, "You've got to be putting me on!" after Madeline hits an amazing note.

36.   "It's Hard to Be Humble" from The Muppet Show
This may be the most random song choice in the entire list, but this song performed by Mac Davis and Link Hogthrob on The Muppet Show is another of my favorites. The duo sings about how difficult it is to remain humble when one is as handsome and perfect as they are. It's such a defining song for Link to sing and Jim handles it deftly. For the final chorus, a bunch of Muppets join in. It's fairly ironic for Lew Zealand to sing "I can't wait to look in the mirror, 'cause I get better lookin' each day," but I love it. Favorite lyrics: "To know me is to love me/I must be a hell of a man/Oh lord, it's hard to be humble/But we're doin' the best that we can."

37.   "Dance Myself to Sleep" from Sesame Street
One of the greatest Ernie and Bert songs ever. It defines their relationship perfectly. Bert is sound asleep, but Ernie fall asleep. What does he do? A soft-shoe tap dance around his bed while playing the bugle and enjoying the company of the Boogie Woogie Sheep. This wakes Bert up, and he is just completely baffled by the whole thing. Eventually he's taken out of the room by the sheep and left outside. It's funny, it's fun, and it allows Bert to ask the immortal question, "When did sheep get tap shoes?" Favorite lyrics: "Well I'm gettin' kinda drowsy so the moment has come/To grab my Rubber Duckie while the sheep take my chum/Time to shuffle off to dream-land, got a date to keep/I'll dance myself to sleep!"

38.   "New York State of Mind" from The Muppet Show
Right now I cannot come up with a Jerry Nelson/Floyd Pepper song that I enjoy more. I truly believe that this is far and away the best version of this song ever performed--and I adore this song. Floyd sings with such soul and such longing that it is incredibly difficult to match. I'll give a shout out to Rowlf's version from Old Brown Ears is Back, but Floyd is still king. Jerry owns this song completely when he performs it. Pure perfection. Favorite lyrics: "Come down to reality and it's fine with me 'cause I let it slide/Don't care if it's Chinatown or rounded riverside/I don't have any reasons, left them all behind/I'm in a New York state of mind."

39.   "Ode to Joy" from YouTube
The new-age Beaker classic that first brought attention back to the Muppets with their hugely popular viral videos. This 2008 piece of brilliance might be Beaker's best vocal work (but don't worry, "Feelings" is coming later on the list). His obvious dedication to performing properly is a really interesting aspect to Beaker's character. He longs to be a great singer but at the end of the day he's just a squeaky red head with awful luck... and we wouldn't have it any other way. Favorite lyrics: "Mee me mee me/Me mee me mee/Me me me me mee me me."

40.   "One Small Voice" from Sesame Street
One of the most beautiful and touching songs written for Sesame Street. It has been performed a handful of times over the years, but my favorite is from Elmopalooza sung by Kenny Loggins, joined in by the kids and, more importantly, Big Bird. The lyrics are indescribably great, singing the importance of both music itself and knowing you can do anything. The music video for the song (which you can see above) makes my spirit soar every time I watch it. I dare you not to feel totally moved when Big Bird says, "Alex, you did great!" and Alex replies, so honestly, "Thanks Big Bird, I had fun!" Favorite lyrics: "No tune is too simple/No voice can be wrong/Music can come from any heart/And anyone's voice can lead the song."

41.   "Imagination" from Sesame Street
Another classic Bert and Ernie song. This beautiful tune is all about finding comfort and happiness by retreating into your own imagination and I think that's a wonderful notion. What I think makes this song truly special is that it is Bert, not Ernie, who first sings of the power of an imagination. One would think Ernie would be in touch with his imagination already, but I love that it is Bert who puts him in touch with it by singing him this song. Also... "I like big balloons!" is a line that is delivered perfectly. Favorite lyrics: "Here in the middle of imagination/Right in the middle of my mind/I close my eyes and the night isn't dark/And the things that I lose, I find."

42.   "Together Again" from The Muppets Take Manhattan
I wish that I could whistle well, if only so I could whistle the opening to this lovely tune. It's fun and pretty free-wheeling. I love the colorful vests the Muppets wear in the movie when they sing this. But mostly, this song works as a perfect reminder of the fact that the Muppets will always get back together. This is easily proven by my favorite lyrics: "I just can't imagine that you've ever been gone/It's not starting over, it's just going on./Together again, now we're here and there's no need remembering when."

43.   "Convincing John" from Fraggle Rock
It's strange to think that Convincing John was only on Fraggle Rock three times. The amount of energy and fun that Jim Henson poured into the character makes it seem like he was there constantly. John was never better than when he sang his titular song. It's fast, it's lively, it's erratic, and it's just plain awesome. Jim performed this song incredibly well and I can't imagine what a strain it must've put on his voice to sing it. And what would the song be without the Fragglettes providing back-up? I absolutely love it. Favorite lyrics: "C'mon listen to me Fraggles/With your Fraggle mouths a'waggle/You can chew a Doozer tower till you're blue/But there's a mighty day a'comin'/When the food'll hit your tummy/And you'll know that what I'm tellin' you is true!"

44.   "What's the Name of That Song?" from Sesame Street
How am I supposed to talk about this song? It just says "What's the Name of That Song?" If we don't even know the name of that song, how am I supposed to know which song to talk about?! It's confusion like this that makes this song so delightfully wicked and incredibly fun. In fact, the entire 35th anniversary DVD special What's the Name of That Song? is based around this confusion. My favorite version of this Sesame classic is probably from Bert & Ernie Sing-Along with the whole cast, but I also love the more recent version that Bert and Ernie sing. Favorite lyrics: "I've heard it said with words and music, a fella can't go wrong/So la de da de dum, la de da de dum... What's the name of that song?"

45.   "Just a Dream Away" from Fraggle Rock
This is one of the few songs on this list that is sung by a one-shot character. In this case, it's the Mudbunny, who appears to Wembley in an episode of Fraggle Rock. Performed by Richard Hunt, this creature had a very interesting life cycle that played out in the episode. Before all that, however, the Mudbunny sings this gorgeous, much too short song. Richard Hunt's voice has never sounded better than it does here. He sings with such mystery and even some omnipotence. It's gorgeous. Favorite lyrics: "Once I wasn't here and then I suddenly appeared/And now I seem to be at home in earth and air/Just like water flowing, I know where I'm going/Look beneath your boots and I'll be there."

Well that's it for today, Muppet fans! Check back next week, same time, same place, for 15 more tunes on our countdown of 120 Awesome Muppet Songs!

News Update: February 15, 2013

NEWS UPDATE: February 15, 2013
Yesterday Sesame Street released a brand new video campaign asking for us, the fans, to help them get to over 1 billion views on their YouTube channel. The video, starring the always wonderful Telly Monster, is hysterical ("Gangnam Grannies," anyone?) and the campaign is fantastic. If they reach 1 billion views, Sesame will be the first non-profit and the first US children's company to reach that milestone. So watch the video, and watch a bunch of Sesame videos on YouTube to get them to 1 billion! Oh, and did I mention that once they hit 1 billion they'll release a new, secret video? Because they will and it's bound to be great.

In our News Update last week we reported that the 1978 Julie Andrews TV special, Julie Andrews: One Step Into Spring, which also stars the Muppets, would be coming to DVD on April 23rd. The DVD is being released by the same studio that brought A Special Sesame Street Christmas to DVD last fall. Unfortunately, said company has not gotten any better at designing covers for their DVDs. The image you see on the right is the actual, official DVD cover for the release. It is an amalgamation of hideous PhotoShop jobs from four different pictures... none of which were in the actual special. All I can say is... Sheesh.

In happier (and much better cover-design) DVD release news, Sesame Street Presents Elmo: The Musical, a DVD compilation of 5 episodes of the new (and fantastic) Elmo: The Musical segment, is coming on May 7th! You can see the cover art on the right, and based on that we'll be getting "Sea Captain: The Musical," "Circus: The Musical," "Athlete: The Musical," and two more segments on the DVD! If you haven't had the chance to see the great new Elmo: The Musical segments on Sesame Street this season, this DVD looks like the perfect opportunity to!

Last but not least this week is an interview with Brian Henson featured on the Disney D23 Website. Unfortunately, the interview mainly focuses on Brian's involvement in the Disney cult classic Return to Oz, where Brian portrayed the character Pumpkin Head. Thankfully there's still some good Muppet talk stuffed in the interview as well, but nothing too exciting. Still... it's good ol' Brian Henson!

Muppet Discoveries on YouTube

There has been so much impeccable, quality Muppet stuff all over the place lately that it has been nearly impossible to keep up. So, any time I've needed to catch up on what I've missed (which is surprisingly often), I check the YouTube account of our good friend Matt over at MuppetMusings. Matt has an incredible knack of getting video from nearly everywhere on the internet, including some exclusive video from Disney.com and other hard-to-capture sites. Check out some of the incredible videos from MuppetMusings below!

First up is a clip from last night when Kermit the Frog appeared in Washington D.C. at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, where he assisted President Obama and the First Family in lighting the National Christmas Tree. America's favorite amphibian also joined First Lady Michelle Obama for a reading of the classic Christmas story "Twas the Night Before Christmas." This video streamed live last night and, somehow, MuppetMusings captured it!

Our good friends at Fandango.com recently sat down with an interview with our other good friends Jason Segel, Walter, James Bobin, Amy Adams, Kermit the Frog, and Miss Piggy. The gang gets to have some fun talking with the Fandango guy... and Walter has some fun saying the word "cinema."

Cineplex.com has a fantastic interview with Jason Segel and Kermit the Frog. I really like the way this interview was edited with interspersing clips from The Muppets and the background music pulled straight from the numerous trailers is an added treat. Plus... popcorn.

The Muppets recently appeared on Good Morning America to promote The Muppets and performed "Mahna Mahna" on Times Square. This clip, previously only available on ABC.com, was snagged by Muppet Musings and put on YouTube. So enjoy a fantastic performance of this classic song featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Camilla, and the Snowths!

Our final video from MuppetMusings is this montage of clips from Jim Henson's life and career that was shown during the Disney Legend's Ceremony at the 2011 D23 Expo this past August. I have no idea how MuppetMusings got their hands on such a high-quality copy of this... but boy, am I glad they did. This montage is fantastic and so much fun. Enjoy it!

Finally, in official video from The Muppets Studio news, this fantastic 17-second TV spot shouts a lot about how The Muppets is the NUMBER ONE comedy in America!! The reason we show this one off is because we want to remind you all (as if you could forget) to go see The Muppets this weekend and help propel the movie to NUMBER ONE overall! So go get your tickets, enjoy some popcorn, and have fun!

Muppet Fans Do Awesome Things on the Internet

So... I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at midnight last night. My main goal, of course, was to see the trailer for The Muppets... but my hopes were shattered when the trailer was not included before the film at my local theater. Needless to say, disappointment doesn't begin to describe how I felt/feel... but then I got only and I started to feel a bit better. Why, you ask? Well... because Muppet fans are awesome. There's such a treasure trove of great, fan-created content on the web that I've been fortunate enough to have shared with me by Muppet fans. It never ceases to amaze me how talented Muppet fans are. I'm also really glad that they're willing to share said talent on the internet for everyone to see. So, while we wait for the Muppet trailer to hit YouTube, enjoy just some of the awesome Muppet fan things that hit the web recently.

Our new friend Ben Henry from The Baseball Card Blog emailed me last week with a link to his site where he features a bunch of customized baseball cards, including quite a few Muppet cards made by Travis Peterson. It's a really fun trip through America's pastime with Muppets on the iconic cards instead of baseball players. There's a lot of fun tid-bits Ben includes in his posts, so be sure to check out all of his Muppet cards for yourself! I especially like the Christopher Reeve card and the Scooter card, because it says "Snuffies" on it because that's a funny word.

Neil McNally from the website The Daily Deceased, which profiles notable persons daily who passed away on that date, emailed me yesterday with a link to the profile from May 16th which, of course, spotlighted Jim Henson. It's a nice little article and another way of remembering Jim 21 years later, which we should all do.

One very talented YouTube video maker took the time to edit together clips of Kermit and Piggy from the first three Muppet movies spliced over three songs including "I'm Gonna Always Love You" and music from the Beach Boys. The video is entitled "Warmth of the Next Love" and it's sweet, cute, and fun. Enjoy it!

Finally, our good friend and one of my personal favorite people, Dave Hulteen is now offering Custom Digital Puppet Illustration commissions. Essentially, Dave will draw you or someone you know as a puppet character with exagerated skin tones and features, much like the caricatures of myself, Joe Hennes, Ryan Roe, Steve Swanson, and Dave himself that you can see over at MuppetFans.com. Trust me when I say that these are awesome and make a fantastic profile picture for your Facebook, Twitter, or where ever you kids socialize nowadays. Just take a look at this side by side comparison of me and the Hulteen caricature of me. Uncanny, no? No go forth and patronize!

Muppet Silly Bandz YouTube Review

Greetings, Muppet fans! I'm very excited to once again bring you the latest video to grace our YouTube channel. In this new video, I, Ryan Dosier, review the new Muppet Silly Bandz--and lose circulation in my arms due to Silly Bandz constricting my blood vessels. See what I sacrifice for you people? But anyway... do enjoy the video!

Ask Elmo!

Greetings, Muppet fans! How is your life? Have you been wandering around aimlessly, lost and confused? Have you been distraught and perturbed and just out of luck? Do you just have too many questions spinning around your mind to be happy? Well, thanks to our good friends at Sesame Street, there is finally someone who can answer these questions for you... Elmo!

That's right, everyone's favorite 3 and a half year old furry red monster allergic to tickling is now allowing his fans to ask him questions! Any questions they want! (Well... you know, within reason.) Just watch his latest YouTube video for details on how to ask...

Get it? Got it? Good! Now get out there and ask young Elmo a question! I doubt he has a degree in psychotherapy... but wouldn't it be awesome if he did?

New Muppets Video: Pöpcørn

The Muppets Studio is at it again! This time, the Swedish Chef takes a starring role as he attempts to make popcorn--with hilariously musical results. Sounds like a great Muppet Show sketch, yeah? Well... it's pretty darn close to one. Check it out for yourself!

Didn't you love it? I know I did. Now... for an added element of hilarity, go back and watch it again, only this time turn on YouTube's closed captioning. Give it about a minute and you'll be rolling on the floor laughing once again (except you'll want to get up from the floor, so you can read the rest of the captions). Congratulations to The Muppets Studio on another fantastic video!

New Muppets Video: AMERICAN WOMAN

The Muppets have done it again. Their brand new, hotly-anticipated, viral YouTube video, "American Woman" has been posted just in time for Memorial Day Weekend! The new video stars Sam the Eagle as he... oh, forget it, just watch for yourself!

Sam the American Eagle, ladies and gentlemen! And how about Kermit there at the end? Excellent! Now... excuse me while I watch again and gasp at the word "Canadian."

New Muppet Video: "Stand By Me"

Happy April 2nd, everybody! Sorry to all of you that might have fell for my April Fool's gag yesterday--but, c'mon, you've gotta admit it was a good one.

Anyway, yesterday while The Muppet Mindset was being flagged for "copyright violation," The Muppets Studio went and did me one better by releasing a brand new Muppet viral video on YouTube. This new video, "Stand By Me," features fan-favorite character Big Mean Carl (here seen as Carl the Big Mean Bunny) as he eats his way through the classic song. But why are you listening to me yammer on about it? Here, watch!

Fun, hilarious, and classic Muppety humor all wrapped up into one wonderful video. Can you get behind it?
